This is an exciting and broad reaching role with high visibility, which will suit someone with some technical acumen who wants to move deeper into Project Management.

This opportunity has the potential to springboard the career of the right candidate by providing rare exposure to the customer, end to end program, a wide variety of stakeholders and project issues.

This Project Management role will be working directly with our customer, the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to manage critical dependencies across the Hunter Class Frigate Program (HCFP) in accordance with the Program’s schedule and quality requirements.

Core Duties:

  • Drive on‑time delivery of critical program dependencies across information, data, equipment, facilities and services.
  • Proactively identify, prioritise and resolve issues, ensuring seamless integration across the program and rapid decision‑making.
  • Lead complex stakeholder engagement across engineering, commercial, project delivery and executive teams, with clear and confident communication.
  • Manage contracts and commercial arrangements to deliver optimal outcomes while balancing risk, accountability and long‑term relationships.
  • Establish and drive robust, data‑driven governance frameworks, providing clear insights on status, risks and issues up to executive level.

Essential Skills:

  • Exceptional stakeholder and communication skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse audiences.
  • Self‑driven and proactive, with a proven track record of independently identifying issues and driving them through to resolution.
  • Technical or Engineering background desirable, with a clear ambition to grow further into Project Management.
  • Strong grounding in project management principles, with practical application highly valued.
  • Commercially astute, with solid experience or exposure to contracts and commercial management.
  • Confident communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts for senior and executive stakeholders.
  • Defence security clearance (NV1) or eligibility to obtain required.

The Hunter Class Frigate Program:

BAE Systems Australia is leading the largest ever surface ship project in Australia’s defence history – the design and build of Hunter class frigates.

The Hunter Class Frigate Program is transforming Australia’s shipbuilding industry by supporting the building of a world-class, continuous naval shipbuilding capability for our nation.
