Location: Rochester; Kent: Onsite

Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience

Job Description:

As a Deputy Compliance Manager, you will work closely with multiple business functions to provide expert day-to-day guidance on compliance matters, with a strong emphasis on UK and US export control regulations and applicable corporate and local policies. Supporting the Compliance Manager, you will play a key role in leading the Compliance Team, driving best practice, and advancing continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation. You will apply your export control expertise to support the development and implementation of policies and procedures, while taking ownership of complex, sensitive, and high-impact compliance issues, ensuring they are managed with sound judgement and in line with regulatory requirements.

Core duties:

  • Act as the key point of contact and subject matter expert for export control regulations and procedures (UK, US, and other jurisdictions), including acting as Compliance Manager when required
  • Lead export control investigations, draft disclosures, conduct root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions and lessons learned
  • Oversee risk management, governance, internal audits, and compliance checks using formal methodologies
  • Drive process improvements, maintain up-to-date export control documentation, and support business-wide transformation initiatives
  • Develop and deliver compliance training, manage export licence submissions (UK, EAR, ITAR), support legal tasks, and lead/develop junior team members

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in US export controls, including ITAR and/or EAR regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of UK export controls, including OGELs, OIELs, and SIELs
  • Proven experience in trade compliance, including sanctions and embargoes frameworks
  • Previous experience in line management or team supervision, with the ability to lead and develop others is advantageous
  • Hands-on experience conducting investigations, audits, root cause analysis, and managing corrective actions and disclosure documentation

The Compliance Team:

As a Deputy Export Control Manager you will work with numerous business functions to provide day-to-day guidance on compliance issues. Within the Compliance Team you will collaborate to seek and introduce best practice and drive compliance related continuous improvement initiatives.

Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
