Job Title: Buyer

Location: Rochester

Salary: Circa £30,000 dependent on experience

What you’ll be doing:

• To receive requisitions and demands, negotiate with suppliers, and process Purchase Orders and Purchase Order amendments in accordance with Procurement processes and procedures, and the requirements of the business
• To understand the budget requirements for the Purchase Orders they are responsible for, and to support achievement of these requirements through effective negotiation with their supplier
• To obtain and communicate progress updates from suppliers in an effective manner, and be capable of resolving issues in a satisfactory manner. Whereby understanding when to escalate more critical issues to senior members of staff
• To maintain Supplier open order books and ensure that correct and current data is maintained in the Oracle ERP system
• To process supplier returns, ensuring these are actioned in a timely manner
• To understand and support the implementation of corporate Procurement processes and initiatives as appropriate to their area of responsibility
• To support other members of the Procurement Team as required in their daily responsibilities

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

• Knowledge in buying/procurement/purchasing
• Effective communicator and strong IT skills

Desirable

• HNC/HND in Business Studies or equivalent experience
• Working towards MCIPS or Equivalent experience
• Experience using ERP systems such as Oracle

The Procurement team

Reporting into the Procurement Manager you will be responsible for the management of the material and suppliers for a business area and product line. You will work alongside and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, internal project teams and functions to ensure that the requirements of the business area are satisfied.

Rochester is a diverse organisation with a global customer base producing commercial and defence electronics for high integrity controls, active inceptor systems, head-up displays, head-mounted displays, power and propulsion systems as well as an avionics market service centre. We operate across the entire product lifecycle from cutting edge research to aftermarket support and have suppliers in Europe, USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Japan, Sri Lanka as well as across the UK.

We are experiencing significant growth with the work we are winning either critical to our national interest and security or essential to our business performance. As a result, the company is investing in our business with an extensive refurbishment of the whole site including a new 20,000m² factory with demolition work underway.
