Job Description

Job Title: Business Support Administrator

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base – Onsite only

Salary: Up to £26,500 (dependent on skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Undertakes a range of clerical and administrative duties within a department to ensure the smooth running of the department
  • Processes documents and information received from a range of sources
  • Identifies and undertakes initial investigation into discrepancies and shortages relating to product or services, this could involve statistical information, document control or physical stock control
  • Collates and extracts data and produces routine reports, schedules, summaries and letters for internal circulation or for customers and suppliers
  • Will deal with customers and suppliers and exchange information in order to clarify a situation, e.g. placing orders, arranging appointments, deliveries, etc.
  • Verifies calculations, checks or allocates costs, checks and obtains correct authorisation and obtains information for incorrect or incomplete documents
  • Files documents and keeps filing systems up to date such that information can be readily retrieved

Your skills and experiences:

  • Demonstrated experience in a clerical or administrative role within a Business Support environment
  • Proficient in the comprehensive use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks accurately and within deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of a variety of work routines, procedures, and systems relevant to their area of responsibility
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise across teams
  • Highly organised and detail‑focused, able to manage facilities reporting, resource allocation, IT coordination, and record keeping to ensure smooth business support services

Operational Performance – Project Admin Support team:

The Operational Performance – Project Admin Support team consists of eight dedicated administrators all based at Portsmouth Naval Base. They provide essential support to a wide range of projects across the warship support community, working closely with project team members, project managers, industry workers, and other departments. Each project within the base follows a mirrored structure, ensuring consistency and collaboration across the board. Being part of this team offers excellent opportunities for professional growth, with annual PDR goals and the chance to develop skills in different areas of the business.
