The role demands proactive risk management, emergency preparedness, and fostering a strong safety culture during shift operations. Responsible for enforcing APMT safety standards on-site, executing all safety-related policies, and identifying, mitigating, or escalating critical risks in alignment with established safety regulations, policies, and standards.

HSE Superintendent | Gateway Terminal India

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

About Gateway Terminal India

This role is based at Gateway Terminal India and supports HSE, fire safety, emergency preparedness, occupational health and sustainability activities across port operations.

  • Build broad experience across fire safety, emergency response, occupational health and environmental initiatives.
  • Develop your capabilities through safety training, HSE awareness programs, Kaizens and continuous improvement activities.
  • Work closely with employees, contractors, supervisory teams and surrounding emergency-response stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead shift-wise HSE operations, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and APMT global standards, and drive effective implementation of global HSE mandates.
  • Conduct safety inspections, hazard identification and risk assessments, enforce safety requirements, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Establish and maintain emergency response procedures and coordinate responses to fire, oil spills, hazardous material incidents and other port emergencies.
  • Lead and supervise the Fire & Safety team, maintain firefighting equipment, conduct fire-prevention inspections and coordinate mutual fire-protection and emergency-response activities.
  • Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, maintain accurate inspection and incident records, and drive timely closure of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Deliver HSE orientation, safety induction, fire prevention and emergency response training for employees and contractors, and organize awareness and promotional programs that strengthen HSE culture.
  • Supervise Occupational Health Centre activities, coordinate health surveillance, first-aid and CPR training, support employee wellness programs, and contribute to environmental initiatives aligned with sustainability goals, including Net Zero by 2040.

What We Are Looking For

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Fire & Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline; or a Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering with an Advanced/Post Diploma in Industrial Safety approved by RLI/CLI/TEB; or a Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering with NEBOSH accreditation (IGC/Diploma).
  • Experience: 8–10 years of HSE experience, with experience in Oil & Gas/Petrochemical and/or Port Industry, including port operations safety, emergency response and regulatory compliance.
  • HSE expertise: Strong capability in risk assessment and HIRA, emergency response planning, incident investigation and reporting, safety audits, fire safety, hazardous materials handling, regulatory compliance and environmental sustainability practices.
  • Leadership and communication: Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to lead shift teams in high-pressure environments and communicate fluently in Hindi/Gujarati and English.
  • Digital and analytical capability: Proficiency in safety data analysis and trend reporting, with familiarity with digital HSE platforms and reporting tools.
