Job Description
APM Terminals
At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be apart of our journey.
What We Can Offer: At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.
Operational excellence is one of APMT’s 4 core strategic pillars, building a platform in which all value streams are standardised, scalable, and replicable across our global terminal network. Operations Technology is central to delivering on this ambition, from deploying brownfield automation to rolling out asset digitisation across conventional terminals. Achieving this at pace requires a focused, globally aligned team with deep subject-matter expertise and the agility to make sound decisions quickly.
As a Product Owner within the Execution Products portfolio, you are accountable for delivering digital products and capabilities that work in real operational environments and generate measurable value. You translate business needs into clear product scope, make informed prioritisation decisions, and drive high-quality delivery through close collaboration with engineering teams and terminal stakeholders. This role operates at the intersection of business and technology in fast-moving, complex environments where requirements evolve and solutions are validated in live terminal operations. You bring structure to ambiguity, align stakeholders around shared priorities, and collaborate across product areas to ensure consistency and integration, always with a focus on making sure what gets built actually works in day-to-day terminal operations.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Requirements gathering & analysis: work with stakeholders to gather, document, and prioritise business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria. Analyse existing systems and workflows to surface opportunities for improvement and ensure solutions align with end-user and business needs.
- Customer & end-user insights: maintain a close connection with end-users to understand how products are used in practice, identify pain points, and turn those insights into enhancements that deliver real operational value.
- User story development: translate requirements into clear, well-defined, and appropriately estimated user stories in close collaboration with engineering teams. Keep the backlog healthy and refined to ensure teams are always ready to deliver.
- Backlog ownership & prioritisation: own and prioritise the product backlog, balancing business value, operational needs, and technical constraints. Make day-to-day prioritisation decisions and escalate major scope or strategic calls to the Product Line Manager.
- Roadmap management: maintain and communicate the product roadmap, and proactively identify and escalate risks, dependencies, and constraints that could impact delivery commitments.
- Stakeholder alignment & communication: keep product initiatives aligned with business goals through proactive stakeholder engagement. Manage expectations, facilitate workshops and feedback sessions, and provide clear, consistent updates on product progress.
- Testing & quality assurance: define test cases and acceptance criteria together with engineering teams and terminal stakeholders. Lead and coordinate UAT execution — including in live environments — and sign off on delivered solutions against agreed requirements.
- Value tracking & reporting: define and track product performance metrics and KPIs linked to operational outcomes. Validate that delivered features generate the intended impact post-release and share results with stakeholders to inform continuous improvement.
- Market awareness: stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and the competitive landscape to inform product decisions and keep the portfolio relevant and forward-looking.
Critical Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience in digital product development and managing full product lifecycles in a global operations technology environment
- Background in terminal operations, maritime, or port technology is essential - Hands-on experience working with engineering and development teams in an Agile delivery model
- Strong stakeholder management experience, with the ability to align diverse groups across business and technology
