Job Description

APM Terminals

APM Terminals is part of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group and one of the world’s leading port and terminal operators. With a global presence in over 60 countries, we are committed to enabling global trade, driving operational excellence, and building sustainable growth through our ports and inland services.

About APM Terminals Pipavav

APM Terminals Pipavav, located in Gujarat, is one of India’s leading gateway ports offering integrated logistics and terminal services. With excellent connectivity to the hinterland, Pipavav plays a vital role in strengthening India’s trade ecosystem. The terminal is known for its operational efficiency, customer-first approach, and strong focus on safety and sustainability.

What We Can Offer:

At APMT Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement is driven by Lean principles, ensuring that every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Develop your technical expertise through hands-on maintenance of mobile equipment, diesel engines, hydraulic systems and workshop machinery.
  • Contribute to Kaizen, root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities that enhance equipment availability and reliability.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations to diagnose equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Gain exposure to varied equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, cherry pickers, DG sets, Cummins engines and diesel-engine-driven fire-fighting systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance on forklifts, cherry pickers, DG sets, diesel engines and other mobile and workshop equipment in accordance with OEM recommendations.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and diesel-engine-related faults, completing repairs and post-repair testing to ensure equipment is safe and fit for operation.
  • Respond to breakdowns, identify actual root causes and restore equipment within targeted Mean Time to Repair requirements.
  • Inspect critical components, including bearings, shafts, couplings, gears, chains, sprockets, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, steering systems, wheels and tyres.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis and structured problem-solving using techniques such as 5 Why to prevent repeat failures and unplanned downtime.
  • Monitor maintenance history, equipment condition and breakdown trends to support improvements in Mean Time Between Failures and equipment reliability.
  • Participate in Kaizen, condition monitoring, equipment overhauling and continuous improvement initiatives to raise maintenance, safety and reliability standards.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Qualification: ITI in Diesel Mechanic, Fitter or Motor Mechanic, or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant experience: A minimum of 5–6 years of hands-on experience in mobile equipment, workshop equipment, diesel engines or industrial maintenance.
  • Technical capability: Strong practical knowledge of mechanical troubleshooting, diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulic systems, preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance.
  • Equipment exposure: Experience maintaining forklifts, reach trucks, cherry pickers, aerial work platforms, DG sets, Cummins engines, pumps, compressors or other industrial equipment.
  • Problem-solving ability: Practical knowledge of RCA, 5 Why, Kaizen, MTBF, MTTR and structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Working approach: Ability to independently diagnose equipment failures, work in workshop and breakdown locations, remain effective during critical breakdowns and follow disciplined safety practices.
