We're seeking a Fleet Mechanic to responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and overall technical reliability of fleet vehicles. The role ensures that all assets operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

This position supports daily operations by minimising downtime, diagnosing faults accurately, and maintaining high-quality workmanship across all maintenance activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs on fleet vehicles, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics.

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

  • Use diagnostic tools, telematics data, and technical manuals to identify mechanical and electrical faults and determine appropriate repair solutions.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all work meets safety regulations, manufacturer standards, and legal compliance requirements (MOT, inspections, roadworthiness).

Breakdown Response

  • Support roadside repairs and recovery when required, ensuring quick and safe resolution of vehicle failures.

Parts & Inventory Management

  • Identify required parts, support stock control, and ensure proper use of workshop tools and equipment.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate service records, job cards, inspection reports, and defect logs.

Quality Assurance

  • Conduct post-repair checks, road tests, and quality inspections to ensure vehicles are fully operational before release.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Fleet Technical Agents, workshop supervisors, and drivers to prioritise repairs and communicate technical findings clearly.

Continuous Improvement

  • Recommend improvements to maintenance processes, workshop efficiency, and vehicle reliability.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Someone with:

  • Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic, ideally within a commercial fleet environment (HGV/LGV experience advantageous).

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment and interpret fault codes.

  • Understanding of health and safety standards, workshop procedures, and compliance requirements.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent).

  • Technical expertise in vehicle systems and repair methods.

  • Safety-focused mindset with consistent adherence to procedures.

  • Efficiency and time management when handling multiple repair tasks.

  • Clear communication, especially when explaining technical issues.

  • Teamwork within a workshop and operational environment.

  • Accountability for quality of work and accurate documentation.

Performance Indicators

  • Vehicle availability and reduction in downtime.

  • Quality and accuracy of repairs and maintenance.

  • Compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Timeliness of completing scheduled and unscheduled repairs.

  • Accuracy of documentation and reporting.

  • Feedback from drivers, supervisors, and fleet operations.
