Job Description

APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

About North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven and the project

North Sea Terminal Bremerhaven, known as NTB, is the focus of an acquisition, expansion and transformation project. The programme will fully integrate NTB into the APM Terminals portfolio and modernise the terminal through new equipment, upgraded infrastructure and IT and operational technology systems, and the implementation of a new operating model. It will support growth in the existing container terminal business and expand the value and proposition delivered for Maersk.

We are now looking for a Finance Project Controller to join the team supporting this programme. You will work across project workstreams as part of a culturally diverse team, collaborating with project colleagues, terminal leadership, global functions, shareholders and external partners.

Role overview

As Finance Project Controller, you will play a critical role in supporting the financial success of a high-impact terminal infrastructure project that enables global trade. Reporting to the Project Finance Business Partner, you will oversee the financial control of capital investment from budgeting and forecasting through to cash flow management, accounting, reporting and governance.

You will combine financial analysis with project collaboration, ensuring that decision-makers have clear insight into project performance, changes and risks. This opportunity will suit a finance professional who enjoys working at the intersection of project execution, financial control and continuous improvement.

What We Can Offer

At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Contribute to a major terminal acquisition, expansion and transformation programme.
  • Work with project teams, terminal leadership, global functions and external stakeholders.
  • Apply your financial expertise across the full lifecycle of capital investment projects.
  • Develop your capabilities in a multinational environment committed to learning and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee project financial governance, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, cash flow planning and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts using project inputs, contractual terms and approved investment plans.
  • Track and report actual investment against budget, covering capitalised and non-capitalised project costs.
  • Ensure accurate financial data, clear visibility and timely insight for stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with APM Terminals finance policies, CFO guidelines, concession agreements and shareholder reporting requirements.
  • Review fixed-asset capitalisation, accruals, supplier invoices and payment schedules with Accounting and Asset Delivery teams.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of scope and budget changes, prepare business cases and scenarios, and support the identification and tracking of project-related financial risks.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: We are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset, curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, ideally supporting project implementation or capital investment environments.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS, with experience in capitalisation and project accounting.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex financial information, identify deviations and provide fact-based recommendations.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, able to engage cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and organisation, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with discretion and confidentiality.
