Help turn two new reservoirs into secure drinking water supplies

Anglian Water is progressing two new reservoir developments, the Fens Reservoir and Lincolnshire Reservoir, together with the infrastructure needed to connect them to the wider water supply system. It is the largest and most complex programme of work Anglian Water has undertaken.

Building the reservoirs is only part of the challenge. Once constructed, the reservoirs will need to be filled and operated in accordance with abstraction licensing and drinking water quality requirements.

As our Technical Solutions Manager, you will lead the work that makes this possible. Your team will put in place the strategies, structures, plans and processes that will enable the reservoirs to be filled and their water to be safely introduced into supply. This is an opportunity to shape how nationally significant water infrastructure moves from construction and commissioning into successful operation for generations to come.

Why this role matters

This is not simply a role coordinating technical activity. It is a leadership position with a direct influence on whether the reservoirs achieve their ultimate purpose: securing resilient, high-quality drinking water supplies.

You will bring together the disciplines of water resources, abstraction licensing, drinking water safety planning and programme delivery to create an integrated route from reservoir construction to operational water supply.

Reporting into the Technical Solutions directorate, you will help define and drive technical solutions across the asset and project lifecycles. You will lead the delivery of the water quality and water resources programme whilst providing assurance that work is delivered to the required cost, schedule and quality standards.

Your leadership will create the framework through which complex technical questions are answered, regulatory requirements are addressed, risks are managed and decisions are taken with confidence.

What will you be doing?

Leading the route to reservoir filling and water supply, you will:

  • Develop the strategy, structures and processes required to fill, commission and bring the new reservoirs into water supply.
  • Lead the water quality and water resources workstreams, providing clear direction and integrating technical activity across the programme.
  • Translate complex technical, regulatory and operational requirements into practical delivery plans, budgets and schedules.
  • Manage delivery against agreed scope, cost, programme, quality and safety requirements, resolving or escalating issues where necessary.
  • Ensure abstraction licensing, drinking water safety planning and operational readiness requirements are incorporated into programme decisions.
  • Establish effective governance, risk, change and performance-management arrangements across the workstreams.
  • Build alignment between technical specialists, operational teams, delivery partners, regulators and other stakeholders.
  • Provide clear reporting and assurance to senior leaders, maintaining momentum and driving continuous improvement throughout delivery

What does it take to be successful?

We are looking for an established leader with strong programme delivery capability. You will bring:

  • Significant project or programme management experience.

  • A strong delivery orientation, with evidence of turning strategic objectives into structured plans and successful outcomes.

  • Leadership experience, including setting direction, building effective teams and holding others appropriately accountable.

  • Knowledge or practical experience of drinking water quality and water resources.

  • An understanding of abstraction licences and how licensing requirements affect water resource planning and operational delivery.

  • Experience of drinking water safety planning.

  • Strong risk, change, schedule, cost and performance-management capability.

As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Personal private health care

  • Life assurance (up to 8 x salary)

  • Personal accident cover (up to 5 x salary)

  • Double-matched pension (maximum 7% employee/14% employer contribution)

  • 26 days annual leave – rising with length of service and the ability to buy more

  • Excellent family friendly policies, such as 26 weeks full pay for maternity / adoption leave, as well as 4 weeks paid paternity / partner leave. Opportunity for shared parental pay

  • Bonus scheme

  • Flexible benefits to support your wellbeing and lifestyle.

Inclusion at Anglian Water:

We value the representation & diversity within our communities. Inclusion is for everyone and we are an equal opportunity employer, which means we’ll consider all suitably qualified applicants regardless of gender identity or expression, ethnic origin, nationality, religion or beliefs, age, sexual orientation, disability status or any other protected characteristic. We recruit and develop our people based on merit and their passion for creating better outcomes, and we’re committed to creating an environment where all our colleagues feel they belong.

The opportunity

Few roles offer the chance to shape how new reservoirs move from ambitious infrastructure proposals into dependable sources of drinking water.

In this position, you will influence the technical and operational foundations of the Reservoirs Programme. The structures and processes you establish will guide how the reservoirs are filled, how water quality and resource risks are managed, and how the new assets are prepared to provide safe, wholesome drinking water.

You will be joining a programme with significant technical complexity, extensive regulatory engagement and a clear long-term purpose. If you are motivated by leadership, delivery and solving some of the water sector’s most important challenges, this is an opportunity to make a lasting contribution by bringing our reservoirs to life.

Closing date: Monday 28th September
