Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship

Employment type:  Full time
Salary:  £23,190 per annum

Job Description

Start Salary: £23,190 per annum

Location: Huntingdon

Apprenticeship Course: Level 3 Laboratory Technician (wsc.ac.uk)

Start date: Monday 8th September 2025

At Anglian Water, we are united by a shared purpose: to bring environmental and social prosperity to the region we serve through our commitment to Love Every Drop. This mission underpins everything we do, from delivering safe, clean drinking water to supporting local communities and protecting our natural environment.

As a Laboratory Technician Apprentice, you won’t just be starting a job—you’ll be launching a meaningful career. You’ll combine your passion for science and the planet with hands-on experience and nationally recognised qualifications. It’s your chance to make a real impact, help shape a more sustainable future and turn your passion for the environment into a purpose-driven profession.

Your journey:

This isn’t your typical 9–5. Imagine yourself in a laboratory environment, where you'll be hands-on with analysing samples and learning a broad range of techniques across both life sciences and chemistry. From day one, you’ll be supported by experienced professionals who’ll guide you through your development. You'll get the chance to cutting edge equipment while also mastering traditional methods, giving you a well-rounded skill set. As you deepen your understanding of the samples you work with, you'll see firsthand how your contributions impact our operations, our customers, and the environment. You’ll follow water on its journey from source to tap, playing a crucial role in maintaining its safety and quality every step of the way.

When you aren't in the lab, you will be studying at West Suffolk College one day a week, as we are committed to nurturing your talent and helping you reach your full potential.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, this role may require possible shift requirement of 10.5-hour day on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern.

What are we looking for?

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths & English Grade A* - C or 9 – 4 (we can also accept function skills qualifications)

  • A Level in Science or a Level 3 equivalent

  • Passion for problem solving and knack for analysis

  • Driven by curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for learning and growth

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from individuals who already hold a degree in a science-related field.

Why join Anglian Water?

  • Nationally Recognised Qualification - Gain the Laboratory Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

  • Specialist Certification - Achieve a Level 3 Laboratory Skills Certificate, recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry

  • Future Employment - Potential for a full-time role at the end of your apprenticeship (subject to performance and behaviour)

  • Generous Holiday Allowance - 25 days of annual leave, rising with service, and the option to buy or sell additional leave to suit your lifestyle

  • Outstanding Pension Scheme – Anglian Water double-matches your contributions, up to a 12% employer contribution

  • Private Health Care – Access to personal private medical insurance

  • Flexible Lifestyle Benefits – A wide range of wellbeing support and retail discounts to help you live well and save more

Closing Date: Sunday 8th June 2025

Next Steps: Once we have reviewed your eligibility for the role you will be invited to an informal online interview wc 16th June 2025. If you are successful, you will be invited to the final stage of the process which will be a face-to-face assessment centre on Tuesday 8th July 2025 in Huntingdon.
