Location: Field based - covering Northampton, Lincoln, Suffolk & Norfolk

Contract: Full-time/Permanent

Salary: circa £37,000

What will you be doing as an IMA Smart Metering Technician

The role provides technical support for the Smart Metering Development Manager and other parts of the Metering Team to improve the performance and efficiency of operational assets and activities within the deployed meter network across the region. The work undertaken within the team is to assist in the maintenance of a calm and stable network, which in turn leads to achieving our company goals in successfully connecting smart meters, maintaining a stable and reliable meter base, reducing leakage and costs, and continuing to improve our service to our customers. The team will drive the optimisation of meter field processes to maximise the connection performance of the smart meters deployed, helping in the reduction of OFWAT ODI penalties.

The Smart Metering Technician will provide support for technical and process field support for the Metering Delivery Team undertaking the maintenance work for the Smart Metering Development Manager and other associated teams. They will carry out as part of their duties, meter maintenance, PRF installs and maintenance, and complex leak investigation work.

What it will take to do this job?

  • Local area technical support - Technical support for relevant patch to other technicians

  • FLT (Smart Meter Commissioning Software application, known as FLT) support - Updates, issues & training

  • Training of other field technicians and teams

  • Complex leak investigations – Long-term leak run times - Second visits

  • Smart Meter network issues - Investigations (field signal tests) and network coverage level surveys

  • Non-Connecting Meter investigations - Meter Maintenance for non-connecting meters - Second Visits

  • PRF installs - Installation of prefabricated and non-prefabricated pulse heads (wiring and potting activities required), and re-instatement of data loggers

  • High level meter maintenance and diagnostics: Non connecting meters second visits. Use advanced field tools (FLT advanced features) and other diagnostic / engineering tools to resolve meter connectivity issues after an unsuccessful initial investigation by Metering field technicians

  • Support to CSRs where a leak investigation does not have a clear outcome for customers

A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent

  • Good understanding of smart meters

  • Good understanding of smart meter networks

  • Lone working in the field in various environments

  • SWQR Street Works

  • EUSR National Water Hygiene
