This is a rare opportunity to lead at the forefront of one of the water sector’s biggest priorities – reducing wastewater spills and delivering lasting improvements to river and coastal health. With increasing regulatory scrutiny and a clear need to improve flow compliance performance, it is critical to transform how we think, act and deliver. You’ll embed a catchment-first mindset across our organisation - driving better outcomes for our customers, communities and the environment.
At the heart of this role is the opportunity to lead real, visible change in an organisation committed to doing the right thing and leading the sector forward.
The role
As Head of Catchment Flow Compliance, you will be accountable for developing and embedding a new strategic approach to flow compliance across Water Recycling and the wider business.
This is more than a compliance role, it’s about transformational leadership, influencing decisions at every level, and shaping how we balance environmental, customer and commercial priorities.
We’re looking for someone to:
Lead the creation and delivery of a catchment flow compliance strategy, embedding it into business planning, investment and operations
Drive cultural change, breaking down silos and embedding new ways of working across teams
Overseeing key flow performance metrics, ensuring risks are understood and proactively managed
Influence senior stakeholders, including Executive leaders, Regulators (Ofwat, EA) and external partners
Shape AMP8 Investment period delivery and future AMP planning, ensuring investment is targeted where it has greatest impact
Establish a centre of excellence for flow compliance, strengthening governance, performance and assurance
Represent the organisation across industry forums, helping to shape sector-wide thinking
Key accountabilities
• Own and lead end-to-end wastewater performance and regulatory compliance across all catchments
• Provide clear line of sight on risk, performance and compliance to Executive and Board
• Drive a shift from reactive reporting to proactive, real-time operational control
• Work across all of Anglian Water to align operational, capital, regulatory and corporate teams around a single approach to performance and compliance
• Break down silos and bring together Operations, Planning, Capital Delivery, Data & Digital and Regulatory teams
• Ensure the business operates as one integrated system with shared ownership of outcomes
• Lead delivery of one of the sector’s top priorities: reducing wastewater spills and improving river and coastal health
• Translate regulatory commitments into tangible operational and investment outcomes
• Lead a step-change transformation in wastewater data, reporting and insight
• Build a trusted, end-to-end data model – from asset to Board
• Replace manual processes with automated, scalable and auditable systems
• Embed a culture where data drives decisions, early intervention and operational control
• Shape multi-AMP investment to deliver compliance and performance outcomes
• Lead delivery of regulatory commitments, plans and reporting
• Establish strong governance, assurance and relationships with Ofwat and the Environment Agency
• Work across the sector, regulators and partners to shape best practice and future approaches
• Build strong relationships with supply chain and technology partners
• Champion innovation, new technology and more integrated, catchment-based ways of working
• Lead and inspire a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team
• Build a culture of ownership, accountability, curiosity and continuous improvement
What you’ll bring
This opportunity will suit an experienced senior leader who combines strategic thinking, technical understanding and the ability to lead change across a complex organisation.
You will have:
Significant leadership experience in Water Recycling or a comparable regulated environment
Proven ability to design and deliver complex, organisation-wide strategies
Strong commercial awareness, including shaping TOTEX investment decisions
To be comfortable making high-impact decisions with incomplete information
Able to think and act systemically, balancing customer, environmental, regulatory and commercial priorities and have experience of data transformation or insight-led decision making
To be credible and influential with executive leaders, partners and regulators
To have the ability to be motivated by stretch targets and takes pride in building teams that consistently outperform
To champion collaboration, innovation and new ways of working and lead people and culture with clarity, energy and purpose to ensure effective delivery
