Shape the future of data at scale – driving clarity, quality and innovation across the enterprise.

As an Enterprise Data Architect, you’ll play a key role in transforming how data is defined, structured and used across Anglian Water. Acting as a trusted expert in enterprise data architecture, you’ll help build a clear, consistent and reliable data foundation that underpins everything from reporting and analytics to integration and AI-driven innovation.

Working within established enterprise principles, standards and reference architectures, you’ll design and shape data models, semantic definitions, metadata and lineage practices that enable high-quality, trusted data at scale.

You’ll collaborate closely with both business and technology teams to understand their challenges and translate them into practical, scalable data architecture solutions. Alongside this, you’ll provide expert guidance and architectural assurance—helping teams make informed decisions while ensuring alignment to enterprise standards.

This is a fantastic opportunity to influence how data is managed and leveraged across the organisation, contributing to the ongoing evolution of data architecture practices, standards and the enterprise data repository.

What you’ll be doing

This role focuses on shaping and maintaining enterprise data architecture to support consistent, high-quality data across the organisation. It involves designing data models and definitions, translating business needs into scalable data solutions, and embedding strong metadata, lineage, and data quality practices.

The role also supports integration and interoperability across systems, ensures alignment of master and reference data, and provides architectural assurance and governance. Alongside this, it contributes to the wider architecture community by sharing best practice, supporting others, and continuously improving data capability.

What does it take to be an Enterprise Data Architect?

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data/Information Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrable experience in enterprise/data architecture, including producing and maintaining conceptual, logical and (where required) physical data models across multiple subject areas.

  • Demonstrable experience designing and maintaining semantic/canonical models, contributing to data dictionaries, business glossaries and agreed definitions.

  • Experience translating business and regulatory needs into data architecture artefacts, including requirements capture, options analysis, and producing design decisions aligned to enterprise standards and reference architectures.

  • Experience designing, improving or assuring metadata management practices (e.g., metadata repositories, glossary/catalogue patterns) and ensuring metadata remains accurate and up to date.

  • Experience embedding data governance requirements into architecture (data standards, data quality measures, stewardship touchpoints, lineage/traceability expectations).

  • Experience supporting integration and interoperability outcomes, including defining relationships between datasets/systems and aligning master/reference data concepts.

  • Experience providing oversight and advice to other architects and delivery teams; coaching and supporting others on modelling and metadata practices.

  • Experience working with operational technology data (e.g., telemetry/SCADA/IoT) and integrating OT and IT domains -Desirable

  • Experience with modern data platform patterns (e.g., Lakehouse, streaming, event-driven integration) and their implications for modelling, governance and interoperability - Desirable

  • Participation in sector standards bodies or national data initiatives (e.g., National Digital Twin, BIM4Water) relevant to data interoperability and standards - Desirable
