Permanent, Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Base Location: Osprey House, Huntingdon (Hybrid working with UK travel)

At Alpheus, we deliver innovative water and wastewater solutions that make a real difference to our customers and the environment. We're looking for a highly organised and proactive Business Compliance Lead to provide governance, assurance and operational support across key business-wide service areas including supplier compliance, contractor assurance, training and competency, fleet management, quality systems and HSEQ.

This role is central to ensuring Alpheus maintains the highest standards of compliance, safety and operational excellence. Working across the business, you'll help drive continuous improvement, support operational teams, and ensure robust compliance processes are embedded throughout our organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced compliance professional to strengthen governance across the business, support operational teams, and play a key role in maintaining the systems, processes and standards that underpin safe, compliant and efficient service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier governance and contractor assurance activities, ensuring suppliers meet all compliance, safety, quality and commercial requirements before engagement.
  • Maintain supplier and contractor approval registers, ensuring records, certifications, insurance documents and competency evidence remain accurate and audit-ready.
  • Monitor contractor performance, safety behaviours, service quality and contractual compliance, driving continuous improvement where required.
  • Manage and optimise contractor management systems, supporting operational teams with supplier onboarding, auditing and compliance processes.
  • Coordinate training and competency management across the business, maintaining accurate training records and competency frameworks.
  • Support workforce mobilisation, onboarding and compliance with contractual and regulatory training requirements.
  • Oversee fleet compliance activities, including MOTs, servicing schedules, inspections, insurance renewals and driver compliance records.
  • Support internal audits, governance reporting, corrective actions and continuous improvement programmes across operational teams.
  • Coordinate and maintain the business risk register, ensuring actions are tracked and managed effectively.
  • Work closely with the HSEQ team to strengthen health, safety, environmental and quality performance across the business.
  • Conduct HSEQ inspections and site visits to monitor standards and support a proactive safety culture.
  • Produce compliance reports, KPI dashboards and governance updates for operational and leadership teams.

Requirements

  • Experience in compliance, HSEQ, governance, operations support or a similar assurance-focused role.
  • Strong understanding of HSEQ legislation, regulatory requirements and governance frameworks.
  • IOSH qualification or equivalent experience in RAMS and operational activity management.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and producing clear, evidence-based reports.
  • Knowledge of contractor management, supplier assurance and compliance processes.
  • Experience managing training systems, competency frameworks or workforce compliance.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and service areas simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across operational and leadership teams.
  • Proactive and solution-focused approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to travel across the UK as required.

Desirable

  • NEBOSH qualification or equivalent.
  • IOSH Process Safety qualification or similar.
  • Experience within utilities, water, wastewater, engineering or infrastructure sectors.

We invest in our people - as a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Personal private health care
  • Generous double match pension – contribute 7% and Anglian Water will contribute 14%, giving a total contribution of 21%
  • 24-hour Virtual GP service for you and your household
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Life assurance (up to 8 x salary)
  • Personal accident cover (up to 5 x salary)
  • Excellent family friendly policies, such as 26 weeks full pay for maternity / adoption leave, as well as 4 weeks paid paternity / partner leave. Opportunity for shared parental pay
  • Bonus scheme
  • Flexible benefits and working culture to support your wellbeing and lifestyle.

Why Alpheus?

You'll work closely with teams across the business, contributing directly to safer operations, stronger compliance performance and continual improvement across Alpheus.
