In order to manage current and future projects, Airbus Helicopters is looking for you to join the team in Donauwörth as soon as possible as our new

System Engineer for Radar and Surveillance Systems / Situational Awareness Systems (d/f/m)

Your Role

As a System Engineer, you are end-to-end responsible for the development and integration of radar systems at the helicopter level for civil and military helicopters (e.g., weather radars, SAR radars, tactical radars) as well as potentially other surveillance systems.

Our Team

You will join a team of 60+ system engineers in our transnational "Situational Awareness and Mission Management" department in charge of the implementation of Situation Awareness systems on all Airbus Helicopters (e)VTOL platforms These systems integrate a variety of technologies for the crew's perception of the external environment to support their understanding of terrain and obstacles, air traffic and weather situation. Typical systems include; obstacle warning systems, camera and electro-optical systems, transponder systems, radar systems, advanced display means.

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours (min. 30hrs/week) and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your location

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your tasks & responsibilities

  • Functional and System Design Responsible for Radar Systems based on Requirements Analysis, System Specification, and Design
  • Definition of the Integration, Verification, and Validation Strategy for Radar Systems (mechanical, electrical, functional)
  • Support for Rig, Ground, and Flight Tests of the respective system
  • Ensuring System Qualification and Certification at the Helicopter H/C level
  • Supplier Management (proactive control and monitoring) to ensure the technical requirements of development contracts
  • Stakeholder Management with relevant actors throughout the organization, e.g., Project and Program Management, Procurement, Sales, etc.
  • Benchmarking of state-of-the-art radar systems and technologies


Required skills and qualifications

  • Academic studies in the field of Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar
  • Experience in the design, development, and/or integration of radars, radar-based systems or sensors for aircraft/aerospace vehicles
  • Comprehensive understanding Systems Engineering methodologies and experience in application
  • Experience in system design, development, engineering and/or integration of complex avionics systems
  • A previous experience with agile methodology (Scrum, SAFe) would be beneficial
  • Team Spirit, good communication skills and experience in stakeholder / supplier management
  • Language skills: English business fluent / negotiation level, knowledge of German, French or Spanish would be an advantage
