Job Description

Job Description:

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern for a 6-month project focused on our core in-house simulation models. This is a unique opportunity to conduct a deep dive into complex MATLAB code used for predicting real-world physical phenomena.

The primary objective of this internship is to analyze, document, and enhance our critical simulation assets. You will be responsible for creating detailed documentation of our existing MATLAB code, suggesting improvements based on modern libraries, and helping to refactor the model into system-level functions.

This role is ideal for a candidate passionate about computational modelling, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics, who wants to make a tangible impact by preserving and improving a critical engineering tool.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a thorough review of existing in-house MATLAB code to understand its architecture, algorithms, and underlying physical assumptions.
  • Develop comprehensive, clear, and high-quality technical documentation that outlines the model's functionality, inputs, outputs, and validation.
  • Identify and suggest improvements and optimizations for the model, researching new features, libraries, or Python integrations that could enhance performance.
  • Assist in refactoring legacy code into modular, reusable, system-level functions.
  • Apply your knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer to understand how the model predicts system parameters like pressure, temperature, and concentration.
  • Present your findings and a final documented model to the engineering team at the conclusion of the internship.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB programming and modelling.
  • A curious, analytical, and "detective-like" mindset for understanding complex code.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a long-term project.
