Role Purpose/Business Unit:

A cross-domain analyst role responsible for translating business needs into clear, actionable data requirements, ensuring Vodacom's Data Strategy is tied to measurable commercial and operational outcomes. The Data Product Analyst bridge the gap between business stakeholders and data capability teams, consolidating requirements across operating companies and Group domains, and supporting the Head of Data in driving enterprise-wide data value.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Translate Business Needs into Data Requirements

  • Elicit, document and validate business and data requirements through structured engagement with stakeholders across Group domains and operating companies.
  • Translate complex business problems into clear, actionable data requirements, user stories and functional specifications.
  • Ensure requirements are complete, consistent and aligned to business priorities and expected outcomes.

2. Enable Business Value Traceability and Prioritisation

  • Map business objectives and value drivers to data sources, data products and use cases, ensuring clear traceability from need to data asset.
  • Support the development of business cases for data initiatives, including cost benefit analysis and benefit quantification.
  • Track and report on the realisation of business value from data investments in line with strategic outcomes.

3. Support Enterprise Data Strategy Adoption Across Markets

  • Support the Head of Data in translating Group Data Strategy intent into actionable, market level and domain level requirements.
  • Consolidate and manage data demand across Markets and Group domains, enabling alignment and reducing fragmentation.
  • Identify opportunities for reuse, consolidation or enhancement of existing data assets to maximise enterprise value.

4. Facilitate Alignment Between Business and Data Delivery Teams

  • Act as a bridge between business stakeholders, data engineering, data & analytics and data science teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Maintain and evolve requirements artefacts (e.g. data flows, process models, specifications) to support effective delivery.
  • Proactively identify and articulate data gaps, data quality issues and delivery risks that may impact outcomes.


5. Promote Data Governance, Literacy and Informed Decision Making

  • Partner with Domain Data Stewards to support governance aligned prioritisation of data products and use cases.
  • Contribute to the development of business facing data documentation and data literacy materials.
  • Support a data driven culture by improving shared understanding of data assets, limitations and opportunities.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in business analysis, data analysis or a related role within a data-driven or technology environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or a related field (essential).
  • Postgraduate qualification or Professional certification in Business Analysis (e.g. CBAP, CCBA) is advantageous.
  • Certifications in data management, Agile delivery or cloud platforms are beneficial.


Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

  • Elicit, document, and validate business and data requirements through workshops, interviews and collaborative sessions with stakeholders across Group and markets.
  • Consolidate and manage data requirements across Markets and Group domains, ensuring alignment between business priorities and the Group Data Strategy.
  • Map business value to data sources, data products and use cases, creating clear traceability from business need to data product.
  • Support business case development for data investments, including cost-benefit analysis, ROI modelling and stakeholder presentations.
  • Develop and maintain data requirements artefacts including user stories, data flow diagrams, business process models and functional specifications.
  • Identify and articulate data gaps, data quality issues, and risks that may impact business outcomes or data product delivery.
