About this Role

We are seeking a skilled Senior Network Specialist to provide 2nd line Transmission Operations support within a leading UK-based telecom environment. The individual will focus on fault diagnostics, proactive and reactive incident management, and performance alignment with defined KPIs. This role involves hands-on work with DWDM, SDH, and EoSDH technologies, ensuring high service availability while collaborating with customers, internal teams, and third-party vendors across a 24/7 operational model

What you will do

• Monitor, prioritise and track Transmission fault tickets received from the 1st Line team.
• Conduct 2nd level diagnostic checks and fault isolation ensuring accurate technical direction.
• Manage technical and managerial escalations within defined timeframes.
• Coordinate testing with customers, internal teams, external agencies and third-party providers.
• Ensure compliance with quality procedures, operational processes and SLAs.
• Manage reactive incidents to achieve timely resolution or escalate to 3rd Line teams where required.
• Support adherence to the process framework aligned to Transmission Operations.
• Work collaboratively with the team as part of a 24/7 rotating shift system.
• Manage incident queues, allocate tasks efficiently and act as the primary escalation point for the shift.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert across tools and technologies, guiding the 2nd Line team on complex tasks.
• Deliver training sessions to enhance team capabilities and drive continuous improvement.

Who you are

• 5–8 years of network operations experience within the telecom sector.
• Strong understanding of DWDM, SDH and related Transmission technologies.
• Hands-on experience with Nortel (TN1C, 1X, 4XE, 16Xe), Marconi (OMS840, 846, OM16XX) and Ciena 6500.
• Proven experience in Network Operations Centre environments and resolving Transmission network faults.
• Excellent understanding of global telecom infrastructure in a 24x7x365 environment.
• Experience engaging with multiple third-party network providers and equipment vendors.
• Strong communication abilities suited to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Adaptability to international working environments, especially UK and European setups.
• Understanding of ITIL Incident Management frameworks.
Desired:
• Experience working with UK network operators.
• Understanding of IP and Voice services, and exposure to OTN technologies.
• Awareness of tools such as Remedy, Cramer, and BT Wholesale/Openreach systems
