We are seeking a QA Automation & Quality Engineer to join our Digital Engineering team and play a critical role in building quality into software delivery from the outset. Working within an AI-native engineering environment, you will define validation strategies, design scalable automated testing frameworks, and ensure software solutions are reliable, secure, performant and fit for production. You will collaborate closely with Engineers, Product Owners, Technical Leads and platform teams to establish effective quality controls, validate AI-generated artefacts, and maintain traceability between requirements, implementation and testing. This role is ideal for an experienced quality engineering professional who is passionate about automation, continuous delivery and improving software quality through proactive, risk-based validation practices.
What you’ll do

- Design, build and maintain automated testing solutions across unit, integration, contract, end-to-end and non-functional testing layers.
- Assess AI-generated tests, specifications and engineering artefacts for accuracy, coverage and alignment to expected outcomes.
- Review requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria to ensure they are measurable, verifiable and testable.
- Apply risk-based testing approaches to prioritise quality assurance activities where customer or business impact is highest.
- Champion API, microservices, integration and contract testing practices across distributed systems.
- Verify system resilience, recoverability, reliability, security and performance characteristics where appropriate.
- Integrate automated testing capabilities into CI/CD pipelines to provide fast and reliable feedback.
- Investigate defects to identify root causes and implement preventative quality controls that reduce recurring issues.
- Maintain traceability between requirements, specifications, implementation and validation activities.
- Support release readiness reviews and production verification activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality engineering standards, tools, frameworks and practices.
- Share knowledge and provide guidance to engineering teams on quality engineering principles and automation approaches.
Who you are
- Proven experience in quality engineering, test automation or software engineering with a strong focus on software quality.
- Strong hands-on capability in designing, developing and maintaining automated test frameworks using modern languages and tooling.
- Experience testing APIs, microservices, integrations and distributed architectures.
- Strong understanding of test strategy development, requirement verifiability and risk-based testing methodologies.
- Experience with contract testing, integration testing and automated quality controls.
- Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery practices, including embedding quality controls within CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of validating AI-generated code, tests, specifications and engineering artefacts.
- Experience with test data management, environment management and service virtualisation.
- Ability to investigate complex defects, perform root cause analysis and identify systemic improvements.
- Experience working in agile, product-led or platform engineering environments.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with AI-assisted testing, Playwright, AI agents, or exposure to Claude MCPs is highly desirable.
- Strong collaboration, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
