The Vodafone Internet of Things (IoT) suite of products and services are designed specifically to meet the needs of new and evolving business verticals. Its connection base has grown 20 % per YoY to reach more than 200 million connections at the end of financial year 2025. Vodafone IoT is a leader in the IoT Connectivity Gartner Magic quadrant and has been for 11 consecutive years. To fulfil the Technology requirements of IoT, Vodafone has developed its own world leading IoT Connectivity Management Platform to target the key strategic growth opportunity specifically to meet the needs of IoT customers globally.
Vodafone has also carved out the IoT Connectivity business to secure additional external investment and maintain our leading position in the industry through the following.
- Continue accelerating and enhancing our Platform as a Service for Vodafone customers on footprint;
- Launch service proposition in markets that are off Vodafone’s current footprint (US and France);
- Address long tail lower volume segment through digital self-service platform globally.
We are looking for an IoT Solution Designer within the IoT Platform Engineering function, reporting to the IoT Charging and Messaging Team Lead, responsible for the following:
- Manages Software development lifecycle for SMS and Charging components, delivering against cost, time and quality;
- Manages technical performance engineering - to engineer in-life performance improvements (availability, capacity, reliability, security);
- Build software engineering skills and best practice within the team;
- To evolve our Agile delivery;
- Work with relevant stakeholders to agree priorities, roadmaps and technology choices.
The role brings experience, knowledge, and future vision for establishing IoT Charging and Messaging Team. The role holder is a senior stakeholder in all relationships with internally and externally sourced software development lifecycle capabilities.
What you’ll do
- Manages Design, Build, Testing and Supporting of components against cost, time and quality;
- Ensure adherence to software development best practices, coding standards, and security guidelines;
- Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership to ensure scalable, reliable, and efficient network integrations;
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in software development processes and tools;
- Work closely with key stakeholders to gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions;
- Ensure alignment between engineering efforts and business priorities;
- Enforce CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring to ensure high availability and reliability;
- Drive incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement to enhance system stability;
- Own decision-making around backlog prioritization, sprint planning, and resource assignments;
- Approve technical designs, integration methodologies with mediation solutions.
Who you are
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, a related field, or equivalent experience;
- 5 or more years of experience in software development area;
- Strong ability to guide teams in designing scalable, resilient, and efficient charging and messaging solutions;
- Proficiency in full-stack development with relevant programming languages (e.g., Java, or similar);
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code (IaC);
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Product, Architecture, Network Operations, and Security;
- Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between business needs and technical execution;
- Expertise in troubleshooting complex integration issues and making informed, data-driven decisions;
- Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
- Experience leading teams using Agile methodologies (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) to deliver high-quality software;
- Strong knowledge of backlog grooming, sprint planning, and iterative development;
- Understanding charging concepts and experience with online and offline charging platforms;
- Knowledge and understanding of the E2E mobile messaging flow;
- Understanding the authorization, authentication and accounting flows in the mobile networks;
- Experience with cloud providers (AWS), Kubernetes, Docker, and automation tools;
- Experience with different DB types; Awareness of cybersecurity principles, authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT), and regulatory requirements;
- Hands-on experience with logging, monitoring, and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana);
- Experience in the mobile networks operators; Big picture oriented, end-to-end and concept to-operations thinker;
- Excellent organisational skills; Excellent communication skills;
- Proven resiliency to cope with high pressure situations (e.g. incidents and releases);
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
