About this Role

We are seeking an experienced 2nd Line Engineer to lead operational support for OSS provisioning systems within Vodafone Network Operations. This role operates in a complex, multi-vendor environment and focuses on ensuring service continuity, high availability, and performance of critical OSS applications. The individual will play a key role in advanced troubleshooting, automation, and optimisation, while collaborating across technical teams and vendors to deliver robust, scalable solutions and support the rollout of new technologies.

What you will do

  • Administer, support, and optimise OSS provisioning, monitoring platforms, and critical applications.
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting activities, perform root cause analysis, and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated monitoring, alerting, and incident detection solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of operational processes, configuration management, and technical project delivery.
  • Support integration, configuration, and rollout of new OSS systems and technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to resolve complex and high-impact incidents.
  • Work closely with NOC engineers and Service Delivery teams, applying Incident, Problem, and Change Management practices (INM, PRM, SRM).
  • Confidently manage ticketing systems, auto-routing mechanisms, and operational workflows.
  • Ensure adherence to ITIL-aligned practices, security standards, change and release processes, and accurate maintenance of operational documentation (KEDB, inventories, guides, and workarounds).
  • Enable effective service delivery through proactive monitoring, reporting, stakeholder communication, and structured escalation to maintain SLA performance.

Who you are

  • A technically skilled professional with proven experience in server and application operations within complex environments.
  • Proficient in Linux operating systems and database administration, with strong hands-on troubleshooting capability.
  • Experienced in programming and scripting (for example Python, Bash, or similar) to support automation and efficiency.
  • Confident working with containerisation and virtualisation technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, VMware vSphere/ESX, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Highly experienced in advanced Oracle database administration and performance troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable working within ITIL-aligned operational frameworks and structured service management processes.
  • A clear and collaborative communicator, fluent in English, able to work effectively with cross-functional and external partners.
  • Holds a university degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, IT, or Computer Science.
  • Brings a minimum of three years’ experience in server/application operations and Linux and database environments.
