Role purpose

The Head of Legal Business Partner is one of the senior members of the Legal Department, providing strategic and operational legal support to all Vodacom departments, in compliance with the Congolese legal framework and Vodacom Group policies.
The role acts as a trusted legal business partner, translating legal requirements into practical solutions, thereby supporting sustainable growth, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management for the company.
The position also plays a cross-functional coordination role between the Legal & Compliance Department and other departments, while ensuring the functional supervision of legal professionals assigned to the various business areas

Core Responsibilities

a. Strategic Legal Advisory and Support to Operational Departments
(Commercial, Technical, HR, External Affairs and Finance)
• Provide proactive and pragmatic legal advice to operational departments to support decision-making and initiatives within their respective areas.
• Identify legal risks and propose balanced solutions that protect Vodacom’s interests while supporting business objectives.
• Represent the Legal function in project committees and executive or management meetings, as required.

b. Supervision and Coordination of Business Legal Counsels
• Set priorities, allocate matters, and ensure consistency and quality of legal opinions delivered.
• Promote and foster a collaborative, high-performance legal culture within the Legal team.


c. Contract Management, Brand and Governance
• Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial contracts, partnership agreements, and complex transactional documents.
• Ensure that contract templates and internal approval processes comply with Group standards.
• Act as the manager and coordinator of trademark protection and intellectual property matters.
• Maintain effective and harmonised contract governance across all departments, acting as the custodian of the contract management system.

d. Compliance and Regulatory Alignment
• Ensure that Vodacom’s operations comply with applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure the effective implementation of Vodacom Group compliance policies.
• Monitor regulatory developments, identify relevant legislative changes, and advise management on their impact.
• Act as the compliance champion and focal point for competition law matters

e. Institutional Relations and Stakeholder Management
• Engage with authorities, regulators, external partners, and external legal counsel to protect and promote Vodacom’s interests.
• Maintain a strong and effective working relationship between Vodacom and the Vodacom Group Legal & Compliance function.
• Coordinate with subsidiaries (including Vodacash) on cross-cutting or shared legal matters.

f. Legal Performance Monitoring and Reporting
• Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to legal activities.
• Regularly present activity reports, risk assessments, and recommendations to the Managing Executive: Legal & Compliance.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal legal processes and tools.
• Be responsible for internal and external legal reporting.

Professional Experience
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in business law or telecommunications law, including at least 5 years in a legal management or coordination role.
• Experience in a multinational or highly regulated environment is an advantage

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in law; a Master’s degree in Business Law or Economic Law is preferred.
• Full professional proficiency in French and English (written and spoken)
