Role Purpose/Business Unit:

The Business Development Manager, Vodacom Business Africa (VBA). role is based within the Sales function of VBA.

The role of the Business Development Manager is to strategically position VBA as a preferred and dominant wholesale fixed provider in the Africa.

Your responsibilities will include: Develop growth strategies and plans to attract new customers / partners, negotiate with internal stakeholders and external partners and follow industry trends locally and internationally. Furthermore, these will include; reporting on successes and areas needing improvements, leveraging relationship with product management to jointly define and drive ‘focus propositions’ to pro-actively develop incremental business opportunity.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform the role of a “hunter” to onboard new customer across the African continent, whilst retaining/managing and growing an existing customer base
  • Responsible for direct and indirect sales plan and its delivery against set targets, in the defined customer base/allocated industry vertical
  • Professionally present Vodafone/Vodacom solutions, negotiate and contract deals
  • Input into annual business planning and monthly/quarterly reviews
  • Align with Regional, Global and National Account Managers in the region to develop, drive and execute sales into accounts managed
  • Develop and execute a business development strategy to increase sales within the IOT/Microsoft/Cloud suite of products in the defined customer base/allocated industry vertical
  • Leverage relationships with product management to jointly define and drive ‘focus propositions’ to pro-actively develop incremental business opportunity.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Matric essential
  • Diploma/ BCom / BSc degree or equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years ICT experience in fixed business solutions
  • Extensive history of successful Business-to-Business Sales in large, complex sales environment e.g. MICROSOFT / B2B telecoms/IT
  • 4 – 8 years’ experience on Linux/Unix based systems on a high level, preferably in a Cloud/hypervisor/VM environment.
  • Experience on the Microsoft Office package i.e. MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point is essential
  • Any experience on VAS Messaging platforms (Voicemail, SMS, MMS) will be beneficial.
  • GSM experience will serve as a major advantage

Core competencies, knowledge and experience :

  • Extensive history of successful sales in the ICT B2B industry
  • Needs to have good strategic skills & tactical execution skills, since structuring and establishing the local, regional and international market is a large part of the role
  • Understanding of the IOT/Microsoft/Cloud/ value chain, impact on business models & where these product offerings can be used as a transformational tool within the verticals
  • Ability to engage at CXX level
  • Be able to translate ICT principles, references and jargon to customer business value
  • Deep understanding of the allocated industry vertical(s) business drivers and challenges, and the industry value chains
