We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly and supportive team at Biggleswade Vets for Pets. Flexibility is really important to us, so whether you’re looking for full-time, part-time or something in between, we’re happy to have a conversation about the hours and working pattern that would work best for you.

Our ideal rota is approximately 35 hours per week, worked over just three weekdays, alongside a 1 in 4 weekend rota. This gives you a role with plenty of time away from work to enjoy a great work-life balance.

A well-organised working day

We want our vets to have the time and support they need to provide excellent patient care without constantly feeling rushed.

You’ll benefit from:

• 20-minute consultations
• Dedicated time blocked out for lunch and administrative catch-up
• A structured diary, with one vet typically operating and two consulting at the start of the day
• Support from an experienced nursing team throughout your working day

We also have a consistent team of locum vets who regularly choose to return to the practice, which we think says a lot about the welcoming and supportive environment we’ve created.

Meet the team

You’ll be joining an experienced team alongside Sarah, our Lead Vet, and Karen, our Graduate Vet. We also have Emma, our full-time Veterinary Surgeon, who is currently on maternity leave and holds an Ophthalmology Certificate, bringing further expertise to the practice.

Our vets are supported by five RVNs and one VCA, with a wealth of knowledge and experience across the nursing team, including one nurse with an incredible 30 years in practice.

We’re keen to continue developing our nursing team by increasing their involvement with Schedule 3 procedures, helping our vets make the best use of their time while giving our nurses further opportunities to develop their clinical skills.

There’s also a real breadth of additional knowledge within the team. Sophie RVN holds an ISFM Cat Friendly Nursing Certificate, while our Practice Manager, Maya, holds a Fear Free Certificate and is training to become a Mental Health First Aider, alongside an existing MHFA within the practice.

Our Practice Owner Sarah is also an RVN with over 20 years of experience in veterinary practice and has been with Biggleswade since the practice first opened in 2015, providing plenty of stability, experience and clinical understanding at practice level.

Develop the career you want

If you have a particular clinical interest or would like to work towards a certificate, we’d be keen to support you. Certificate support is available, alongside a generous CPD allowance, and professional development is actively encouraged.

We’d particularly love to hear from vets with an interest in soft tissue surgery or diagnostic imaging, although most importantly, we’re looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively and delivering great patient care.

Our equipment includes:

• Digital X-ray
• Ultrasound
• Tonometry
• K-Laser

We’re also a Cat Friendly Practice, with facilities including three consultation rooms, a dedicated prep area, separate isolation and kennels, plus an office and kitchen for the team.
