    Job description

Veterinary Surgeon – focus on team wellbeing – 30 minute consults.

By joining us at Newport Vets for Pets, you’ll be working with a great team of longstanding colleagues, enjoy real job satisfaction and a superb work environment. You’ll also benefit from our recent renovations that have enhanced our workspace and already spacious facilities.

    The team

You’ll be joining an experienced and supportive team of 15, including 6 receptionists, 5 vets, 3 RVNs and 1 VCA.

Cath, one of our practice owners, is GDP certified and an excellent surgical trainer. Both Cath and Paul (the other owner), have extensive experience both clinically and in teaching.

Just as importantly, Cath and Paul understand the importance of colleague wellbeing and creating a sustainable working environment. This is reflected in the way the practice operates, including 30-minute consultations and plenty of admin time within the diary.

The vet team is also supported by an experienced nursing team, led by Head Nurse Michelle, who holds a certificate in anaesthesia and critical care and has previous experience working in several referral centres. One of our assistants is also currently working towards an imaging certificate and runs a scanning clinic every Wednesday, providing further opportunities for collaboration and development within the team.

    The role

As one of our vets is sadly leaving and another is going on maternity leave, we’re now looking for a good-natured, all-round GP veterinary surgeon to join us in looking after our valued patients and clients.

Due to the nature of the roles available, we can consider full or part-time hours and are happy to look at either a permanent or fixed-term contract.

Part-time hours will ideally cover 2 days a week, Monday and Wednesday, 8:30am to 7pm, while full-time hours will be 40 hours per week. There is no weekend rota and no out-of-hours requirement.

The role offers a good balance of surgery and medicine. As a solid GP practice, we work at a steady, supportive pace, with 30-minute consultations and a well-managed rota to ensure client satisfaction.

There’s also plenty of admin time factored into the diary, helping to maintain a healthy pace of work and giving the team the time they need to provide a great standard of care without feeling rushed.
