Job Description

At Colton Vets for Pets, we love seeing our colleagues develop, grow and progress into their chosen careers. We are now looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Veterinary Care Assistant to join our friendly and dedicated team, with the opportunity to progress towards becoming a Student Veterinary Nurse within the next 12 months.

We are a multi-award-winning practice with a bright, spacious and air-conditioned environment, purpose-built to industry-leading standards. Our facilities include state-of-the-art equipment, digital X-ray and an in-house laboratory, providing our team with everything they need to deliver an excellent standard of patient care.

About the role

This is a Full time role working 40 hours per week, including 1 in 3 weekends.

Working alongside our Clinical Team and Client Care Advisors, you will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the practice and in providing outstanding care to our patients and their owners.

No two days are the same, and we are looking for someone who enjoys being busy, is happy to get stuck in and is genuinely keen to learn and develop their skills.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Keeping the practice clean, tidy, organised and well presented.
  • Feeding, caring for and monitoring in-patients.
  • Assisting with the handling and restraint of a variety of small animals.
  • Running clinical tests and supporting the veterinary team with patient care.
  • Preparing equipment and the practice for surgical procedures.
  • Managing and maintaining stock levels.
  • Supporting the team with general clinical and administrative duties.
  • Speaking with clients both face-to-face and over the telephone.
  • Helping to ensure every patient and client receives a welcoming, compassionate and professional experience.

Good verbal communication skills and computer literacy are essential, as you will work closely with both clients and colleagues to help ensure the smooth running of the practice.

About you

We are looking for someone who is passionate about animals and genuinely wants to build a career within veterinary care.

You will be:

  • Friendly and welcoming, providing a positive first impression to clients and their pets.
  • Caring and compassionate, with the ability to support clients through both happy and difficult moments.
  • Calm and attentive, always putting the needs of our patients and clients first.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated, with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • A team player, happy to support your colleagues and get involved wherever needed.
  • Organised and reliable, with the ability to manage a busy workload and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Confident communicating with people, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Passionate about animal care, with a genuine desire to develop a long-term career in the veterinary industry.
  • Whether you are comforting an owner who has received difficult news about their much-loved pet or sharing the excitement of a puppy's first visit to the practice, you will understand the importance of making every interaction a positive and caring experience.
  • Your enthusiasm and personality will help create the warm, welcoming atmosphere that our clients, patients and colleagues value.

Career development

At Colton Vets for Pets, we are committed to supporting our colleagues in achieving their career goals.
