Job Description

Are you an experienced RVN looking for a hospital where you can grow, learn and develop advanced nursing skills within a busy 24-hour hospital?

At Leeds Birstall Vets for Pets Hospital, we are proud to be a training hub for veterinary nurses, and we’re looking for a motivated and compassionate Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly and supportive day team.

The role

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position, working 4 days per week across a combination of early and late shifts. The rota includes 1 in 4 weekends, with weekend shifts consisting of two 10-hour shifts.

We are particularly keen to hear from experienced RVNs who can bring a strong level of clinical experience to the team and help us maintain the depth of experience currently within the practice.

We would also welcome applications from newly qualified RVNs who have gained relevant experience during their training, particularly those who have trained in a hospital environment and developed a strong interest and practical experience in anaesthesia and inpatient care. While experience is preferred, we are happy to consider candidates who demonstrate the right skills, enthusiasm and commitment to developing within the role.

About us

We are a 24-hour RCVS Accredited Hospital and Emergency Service Centre, established in 2012 by our JVPs, Keith and Julie Leonard.

We provide out-of-hours and referral-level support to 19 referring practices, alongside a thriving first-opinion service. This gives our nursing team exposure to a huge variety of cases, from routine patient care through to complex medical and referral cases.

Our team of more than 60 colleagues includes vets and nurses holding postgraduate certificates in areas including:

  • ECC
  • Small Animal Surgery
  • Medicine
  • Dentistry
  • Anaesthesia

We actively encourage further qualifications and professional development, creating an environment where there is always someone experienced to learn from.

As a nurse-led hospital, our RVNs are at the heart of inpatient, anaesthesia and surgical care. We pride ourselves on a culture of teamwork, teaching and continuous improvement.

Supporting our team

We believe that supporting our people is just as important as supporting our patients.

We have dedicated team WhatsApp groups for clinical discussion and support, as well as regular in-house CPD sessions covering a wide range of subjects.

Our fantastic management team includes a Mental Health First Aider, helping our vets and nurses to feel supported and able to focus on providing the high-quality care we pride ourselves on. One of our nurses is also training as a life coach, providing another source of support and development for the team.

What you’ll gain with us

Joining our team will give you the opportunity to:

  • Develop your nursing career within a structured, supportive hospital environment.
  • Work alongside experienced RVNs and certificate holders.
  • Gain exposure to advanced clinical skills, including feeding tube management, wound and drain care, complex medical cases and advanced anaesthesia monitoring.
  • Develop your Schedule 3 surgical skills.
  • Rotate through different areas of the hospital, including wards and theatre, building confidence across all aspects of veterinary nursing.
  • Benefit from mentorship, regular CPD and encouragement to pursue further qualifications when you are ready.
  • Work within a welcoming team where learning is encouraged, questions are welcomed and development is celebrated.

About you

We’re looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic and motivated RVN who is excited to start or progress their career in a busy hospital environment.

You don’t need years of experience to join us. What matters most is your passion for patient care, willingness to learn and desire to develop your skills.

Ready to take the next step?

If you’re ready to advance your career in a hospital that invests in its nurses, supports professional development and values the vital role RVNs play in patient care, we’d love to hear from you. To apply or to find out more please e-mail northvet@vets4pets.com and someone will get back to you within 1 working day.
