Job description

Lead Veterinary Surgeon | Up to £75,000 FTE DOE | Full-Time | Flexible Working | Future Partnership Potential

Are you ready to take the next step in your veterinary career and play a key role in shaping the future of a growing practice?

Biggleswade Vets for Pets is looking for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, experienced team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced vet who enjoys a mix of medicine, surgery, leadership and mentoring, and is looking for a role where they can truly make an impact.

As an owner-led practice, we're looking for someone who wants to be more than just another team member. We want a collaborative leader who is invested in developing people, driving clinical excellence and helping us continue to grow. For the right person, there is genuine scope for future progression, including potential buy-in opportunities.

A Leadership Role with Real Influence

Working alongside our Practice Owner, Sarah, an RVN with more than 20 years of experience in veterinary practice, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the direction of the practice while maintaining a hands-on clinical role.

We're looking for an experienced vet who:

  • Has strong medical and surgical skills
  • Enjoys mentoring and supporting colleagues, particularly newer graduates
  • Leads by example and enjoys being part of a close-knit team
  • Is passionate about maintaining high clinical standards
  • Wants to contribute ideas and help grow the practice
  • Is looking for a role with long-term career potential

This is very much a team-focused position. You'll be supported by an experienced and capable team while helping to develop both our people and our clinical offering.

A Well-Organised Working Day

Providing excellent patient care starts with giving our team the time and support they need to do their best work.

You'll benefit from:

  • 20-minute consultations
  • Protected lunch breaks and dedicated admin time
  • A structured diary with one vet operating and two consulting at the start of the day
  • Excellent support from an experienced nursing team
  • A welcoming and collaborative working environment

We also work with a consistent team of regular locum vets who choose to return to the practice time and again, something we're particularly proud of.

Meet the Team

You'll be joining a knowledgeable and supportive team that currently includes:

  • 1 additional full-time Veterinary Surgeon
  • 5 RVNs
  • 1 SVN
  • 1 VCA
  • 5 Receptionists
  • 1 Practice Manager (RVN)

Our team brings a wide range of expertise, including:

  • ISFM Cat Friendly Nursing certification
  • Fear Free accreditation
  • Mental Health First Aider training
  • Ophthalmology expertise within the wider veterinary team

We're passionate about developing our nurses and continuing to expand their involvement with Schedule 3 procedures, creating a collaborative and progressive clinical environment.

Well Equipped to Support You

Our practice is fully equipped with:

  • Digital X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Tonometry
  • K-Laser

We're also a Cat Friendly Practice with:

  • Three consultation rooms
  • Dedicated prep area
  • Separate isolation facilities
  • Separate kennel areas
  • Staff office and kitchen facilities

Why Biggleswade?

Located close to the train station with free on-site parking, our practice offers easy commuting and a fantastic work-life balance.

We're also happy to discuss flexible and part-time working options to create a rota that works for you.

What We Can Offer

  • Salary up to £75,000 FTE depending on experience
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • 1 in 4 weekend rota
  • 20-minute consultations
  • Protected lunch and admin time
  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Certificate funding and support
