Job Description

Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to take the next step in your career? This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, supportive, and ambitious team at Prescot Vets for Pets as our new Head Veterinary Surgeon.

Whether you're already in a leadership position or ready to make the transition, we'll support you every step of the way as you develop your career in a practice that values collaboration, clinical excellence, and continuous growth.

About Our Team

At Prescot Vets for Pets, you'll be joining a highly experienced and dedicated team that genuinely enjoys working together.

Our nursing team brings over 40 years of combined qualified experience across first-opinion practice, referral hospitals, and charity settings. Our client care colleagues have more than 20 years of experience within veterinary medicine, delivering exceptional service and ensuring every client feels welcomed and supported.

We're passionate about professional development and actively encourage both in-house and external CPD. Our Head Registered Veterinary Nurse is currently undertaking a certificate in radiology, reflecting the team's commitment to learning and progression.

As our Head Veterinary Surgeon, you'll be supported by colleagues who are engaged, motivated, and eager to continue developing alongside you.

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who is confident managing all aspects of small animal first-opinion practice, including routine surgery and medicine.

Previous Head Vet experience isn't essential. What matters most is your clinical confidence, strong communication skills, and ability to inspire and support those around you. You'll enjoy mentoring colleagues, driving clinical standards, and helping shape the future direction of the practice.

An interest in surgery, or a desire to further develop your surgical expertise, would be particularly welcomed.

Why Join Prescot?

Located within the busy Cables Retail Park, our practice offers free onsite parking and easy access to a variety of shops, cafés, and restaurants.

Just a short walk away, Prescot town centre is enjoying a cultural renaissance, with award-winning dining, regular community events, and the renowned Shakespeare North Playhouse. Nearby, you'll find Knowsley Estate and Safari Park, while Liverpool city centre is only 20 minutes away by train.
With Chester, Manchester, and the wider Merseyside region within easy reach, you'll enjoy the perfect balance of city life, countryside escapes, and a welcoming local community.

What We Offer

As part of the UK's leading small animal veterinary group, you'll benefit from excellent career development opportunities, access to a wider clinical network, and a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Salary up to £75,000 DOE
  • £5,000 welcome or relocation bonus
  • 28 days annual leave, increasing with length of service
  • Generous CPD allowance with full support for certificates and further qualifications
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Paid professional memberships (RCVS, VDS and BVA)
  • Exclusive lifestyle and retail discounts, including 20% off Pets at Home and The Vet Group products and services

Why You'll Love Working Here

At Prescot Vets for Pets, we're committed to delivering outstanding care to our patients and clients while creating a workplace where our colleagues feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

We understand the importance of a positive working environment and genuine work-life balance. That's why we've built a culture that is welcoming, collaborative, and forward-thinking—allowing you to enjoy your career while making a real impact.

If you're ready to take the next step into leadership and help shape the future of a growing practice, we'd love to hear from you.
