Job Description

Are you a Head RVN looking for a new challenge, or an experienced RVN ready to step into a Head Nurse position? If so, this could be your perfect next step.

Friern Barnet Vets for Pets, a friendly and progressive small animal practice in North West London, is seeking a motivated Head RVN (or aspiring Head RVN) to join our expanding team. We pride ourselves on high clinical standards, exceptional team support, and a genuinely collaborative working environment. If you enjoy running nurse clinics, coaching students and getting hands-on with procedures such as scale and polish, this is the practice for you.

About Us:

Friern Barnet Vets for Pets has grown significantly over the past two years. Our practice owners, Roger and Jonathan, bring more than 30 years of experience, and our Head Vet is currently undertaking a Dermatology Certificate. Our current team includes 3.5 vets, 1 RVN, 3 SVNs, 1 VCA and our practice manager, supported by visiting peripatetic orthopaedic surgeons and an ultrasonographer.

We are proud of our purpose-built surgery, equipped with a full in-house lab, ultrasound facilities, digital X-ray, and dental X-ray. Conveniently located within Friern Bridge Retail Park, we offer ample onsite parking and excellent public transport connections across London and the South East.

About the Role:

This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, including one Saturday in three with time off in lieu. There is no out-of-hours work, ensuring a healthy work/life balance – something we value highly. Part time also considered for the right candidate.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who brings enthusiasm and a lead-by-example approach. Experience as a clinical coach would be an advantage, although we are equally happy to support someone keen to train in that role. You will be working closely with our experienced new Head Vet, Rayyan, alongside our long-standing Practice Manager, Petra, who has been part of the Friern Barnet family for a decade. Together, they are committed to fostering a positive, supportive and happy team environment, as the foundation for delivering outstanding service to our clients and their pets.

Your role will be varied and engaging, involving clinical coaching for our student veterinary nurses, running nurse clinics such as obesity, diabetic and behavioural consultations, carrying out schedule 3 procedures including dental scale and polish, and undertaking routine tasks such as second vaccinations and post-operative checks. You will also play a key part in the ongoing development of the practice and the wider nursing team.

If you are an established Head RVN or an experienced RVN ready to take the next step in your career, we would love to hear from you. Join us at Friern Barnet Vets for Pets and help shape the future of our warm, supportive and growing practice.

In return for your hard work, we can offer:

  • Competitive salary of up to £40,000 Pro Rata, depending on experience.
  • Supportive and friendly working environment.
  • Flexible rota to suit you.
  • Birthday leave.
  • Regular lunch and learns throughout the year.
  • Two mental health first aiders.
  • Personal CPD allowance up to £500 per year with 2 days paid to complete. CPD fully supported and encouraged.
  • No OOH!
  • 1 in 3 Saturday rota.
  • Exclusive colleague discounts at Vets for Pets, Pets at Home, and The Groom Room.
  • High street Shopping Discount Scheme.
  • Company pension Scheme 3%.
  • Great location; near to the A406, M25 and M1 if you drive, or both New Southgate and Arnos Grove stations if you prefer public transport.

If you'd like any further information about this vacancy, the practice or our company please contact Rachel from our Talent Acquisition team via southvets@vets4pets.com for an informal and confidential conversation.

Alternatively, you can submit your application directly to us now and somebody will be in touch with you to discuss this further. We look forward to hearing from you!
