About the role

The primary role of the Data Quality Manager will be to manage a team of EPIC Analyst’s conducting activities to support the EPIC team in achieving its objective of improving the quantity and quality of data held in the EPIC database.

The Data Quality Manager will also oversee the teams’ activities for the completion of requests for data and reports from Valpak Consulting and other Valpak operational teams. The EPIC Assistant Manager will lead a sub-section of the team to ensure EPIC data is accurate and can be used to support Valpak and our clients with trend analysis and insight into packaging and products put on to the market. They will also oversee the team and be responsible for internal projects such as VDI weighing project and the In-House Weighing app.

Data Management & Process Improvement

  • Maximise use of the database and explore innovative error reporting methods.
  • Educate the wider department to ensure accurate data entry during operational processes.
  • Collaborate with Consulting to deliver project data and support sector reporting (e.g. benchmarking, forecasting).
  • Make recommendations to streamline business processes based on data insights.

Data Quality Assurance

  • Lead the VDI Weighing Project to meet ISO Quality Objectives.
  • Run regular quality checks and delegate error resolution to improve data accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean and reliable database by identifying and correcting inaccuracies.

Data Analysis & Integrity

  • Analyse and interpret data using reports and statistical techniques to generate insights.
  • Rigorously interrogate data and challenge underlying assumptions.
  • Ensure data integrity is upheld across all reporting and operational activities.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Line-manage EPIC Quality Analysts, ensuring they receive appropriate training in collaboration with the Training Manager.
  • Delegate EPIC sprint activities and liaise with the EPIC Manager to align priorities.
  • Conduct regular catch-ups and manage personal development plans for EPIC Analysts.
  • Ensure adherence to Valpak’s Health & Safety and Risk Management policies.

Product Ownership

  • Act as the product owner for new EPIC-delivered services, such as Benchmarking.
  • Champion service development and ensure alignment with business needs and data quality standards.

What we need from you

  • Advanced Excel Skills are desirable
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High standards of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience of analysing and manipulating large volumes of data
  • An interest in environmental issues is desirable
  • Previous management experience is desirable
  • Excellent planning, scheduling, and organisation skills
  • Collaborative working style
  • Numerical/scientific qualification at A-Level (or equivalent) or above
  • Must be educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Full UK Manual Driving License
