
Mechanical Field Service Engineer

We’re looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Field Service Engineer to join our team at Barrow-in-Furness. You’ll work in a modern, fast‑paced maintenance environment, helping to keep critical Wastewater assets operating safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance.
The role starts with a core mechanical focus, with clear scope to develop additional skills through structured on‑the‑job training and support. If you already bring secondary skills, we’ll value and build on them.
What you'll be doing
- Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across Wastewater assets.
- Diagnose faults, carry out effective repairs, and return equipment safely to service.
- Maintain and improve asset reliability through proactive maintenance and root‑cause analysis.
- Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Accurately record asset performance, defects, and repair data within corporate systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support capital and operational projects.
- Manage maintenance activities within agreed budgets where applicable.
- Work independently when required, while remaining an active and collaborative team member.
- Take part in the on‑call standby rota and work in confined spaces when necessary
What we're looking for
- A full UK driving licence (a fully equipped company vehicle is provided for travel between sites).
- Time‑served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a mechanical discipline.
- Relevant industry experience within mechanical maintenance, engineering, or industrial environments.
- Strong fault‑finding, planning, and organisational skills.
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical assets such as pumps, gearboxes, valves, and rotating machinery.
- A willingness to develop additional skills and support a multi‑skilled maintenance approach.
