We're looking for an experienced and technically proficient Hub Technical Officer to join our Wastewater Operations team based at Fazakerley Wastewater Treatment Works. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on problem solving, data analysis, process optimisation and technical leadership.

As a key member of the Hub team, you'll provide the scientific, operational and technical expertise needed to ensure our wastewater treatment assets continue to perform safely, efficiently and compliantly, helping us meet regulatory obligations while delivering excellent environmental and customer outcomes.

The role

As a Hub Technical Officer, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and operational support across a portfolio of wastewater treatment assets.

Working closely with Process Controllers, Process Operators, Field Technical Officers, Engineering teams and the System Performance Manager, you will help drive operational excellence, optimise treatment processes, improve asset performance and ensure compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory standards.

This is a highly influential role that combines technical expertise, performance analysis, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement, offering an excellent opportunity to develop your career within one of the UK's leading utility companies.

What You'll Be Doing

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing and interpreting operational performance data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Proactively identifying and implementing corrective actions to improve operational and regulatory performance.
  • Escalating emerging compliance or performance risks to the System Performance Manager.
  • Developing, implementing and reporting on action plans to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and company performance targets.
  • Working collaboratively with Field Technical Officers, Process Controllers and Process Operators to deliver safe, efficient and compliant wastewater treatment operations.
  • Providing scientific, technical and practical guidance to support the operation and optimisation of wastewater treatment assets.
  • Reviewing workforce scheduling and operational performance to identify enhancement opportunities and recommend improvements.
  • Identifying operational challenges and asset needs relating to compliance, efficiency, asset availability, health and safety and process optimisation.
  • Analysing and explaining performance trends, producing reports and presenting findings to operational leadership teams.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of compliance and optimisation action plans.
  • Contributing to regulatory reporting requirements and Environmental Agency correspondence.
  • Leading the development, review and maintenance of quality assurance documentation.
  • Monitoring alarm management systems to support best practice and asset optimisation.
  • Identifying and delivering performance improvement opportunities alongside Engineering and Operations teams.
  • Supporting the development of risk registers and contributing to strategic asset planning activities.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a technically strong individual with excellent analytical abilities, operational expertise and the confidence to influence and support others.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience of wastewater treatment processes and industry best practice.
  • A strong understanding of wastewater treatment assets and their operational and maintenance requirements.
  • Experience working within wastewater treatment operations and maintenance environments.
  • A proven ability to improve operational, environmental and regulatory performance.
  • Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed IT skills and the ability to interpret complex operational data.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience identifying compliance risks and implementing practical improvement solutions.
  • Knowledge of wastewater regulations and future regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and build effective professional relationships.
