The Role

We’re looking for an experienced Energy Metering & Connections Manager to lead the centralised management and coordination of our energy metering and electrical connections function across a large and diverse operational estate.

This is a key management role with responsibility for ensuring our electrical metering and connections activities are effectively managed, commercially controlled and positioned to support both current operational requirements and future business needs.

You’ll lead the performance and management of our metering portfolio, oversee new electrical connections and upgrades, and ensure we have the right infrastructure and arrangements in place to support our sites. Working across multiple business areas and with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you’ll bring together technical understanding, commercial awareness and strategic thinking to drive performance and deliver value.

What you'll be doing

As Energy Metering & Connections Manager, you’ll:

  • Lead the centralised management and coordination of electrical metering and connections across our operational estate.
  • Manage the performance of our metering portfolio, ensuring issues are identified, understood and effectively resolved.
  • Supporting the commercial procurement and securing 3rd parties services to enable the team to deliver the required performance
  • Oversee the delivery of new electrical connections, upgrades and associated infrastructure requirements across multiple sites.
  • Build effective relationships with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), energy partners, suppliers and other key external stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage CAPEX activity, maintaining strong financial control and ensuring investment is appropriately prioritised and delivers value.
  • Establish, track and manage service performance, using data and insight to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Take a forward-looking strategic approach to our energy services provision to the different business areas, anticipating future demand and ensuring our metering and connections strategy supports wider business plans.
  • Provide strong commercial oversight, challenging costs, performance and supplier delivery where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with operational, engineering, commercial and other internal teams to ensure energy requirements are understood and effectively delivered.
  • Lead, manage and develop direct reports, creating clear objectives and driving high standards of individual and team performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, ways of working and overall service performance across the function.

Essential Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Significant practical experience of electrical metering and/or electrical connections. This is an essential requirement for the role.
  • A full UK driving license, as travel to operational sites will be required.
  • Experience gained within the energy industry, a Distribution Network Operator (DNO), or a large multi-site organisation with significant electrical connection and energy requirements.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical metering, connections and the associated energy industry environment.
  • Experience managing CAPEX budgets and projects, including robust financial management and cost control.
  • Proven experience of tracking, managing and improving service and supplier performance.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to understand costs, challenge performance and make commercially sound decisions.
  • The ability to think strategically and look ahead, translating future business and operational requirements into effective plans and priorities.
  • Previous people management experience is desirable , with the ability to lead, develop and drive performance through a team.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience working across multiple functions and with external partners.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities across a geographically dispersed estate.
