Job Description

Make a Difference Across the North West

At United Utilities, we're delivering one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure programmes, helping to create healthier communities, protect our environment and secure future water supplies for millions of people.

We're looking for an experienced and inspiring Construction Delivery Manager to lead the safe, successful delivery of major capital projects across our Water, Wastewater or Better Rivers programmes.

This is an opportunity to influence projects that matter, lead high-performing teams and shape how we deliver essential infrastructure for generations to come.

If you're passionate about construction leadership, developing people and driving positive outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As Construction Delivery Manager, you'll provide strategic leadership across a portfolio of major construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

You'll play a key role in connecting our Capital Delivery Leadership Team with colleagues, partners and stakeholders across the business, providing assurance, insight and leadership throughout project delivery from a construction and buildability perspective.

Working for the Head of Construction and reporting to the Capital Delivery Director, you'll lead teams of construction professionals and work closely with our supply chain partners to create a collaborative, high-performing delivery environment.

This is a highly visible leadership role where you'll have the opportunity to influence decisions, drive continuous improvement and make a lasting impact on the future of the region's water and wastewater infrastructure.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and inspire teams of Senior Construction Managers, Construction Managers, Construction Coordinators, graduates and apprentices.
  • Take ownership of a major construction portfolio, ensuring successful delivery of projects and programmes on site.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with supply chain partners, stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Champion a culture of safety, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
  • Support and develop colleagues, creating opportunities for growth, learning and career progression.
  • Drive performance across quality, customer service, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
  • Monitor programme delivery, identify risks and opportunities, and support effective decision-making.
  • Manage budgets and resources to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Promote the sharing of knowledge, lessons learned and best practice across the Capital Programme.
  • Work closely with Commissioning, Integration and County Business Leaders to ensure seamless project delivery and protect United Utilities' reputation.

What We're Looking For

We know great candidates don't always tick every box. If you have relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we'd encourage you to apply.

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience leading the delivery of major construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • A track record of successfully managing contractor and supply chain relationships.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and influencing skills.
  • Experience managing risk, budgets and programme performance.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrable commercial experience and working knowledge of construction/engineering contracts (ideally NEC3/4)

Qualifications

We're interested in your experience and potential, as well as your qualifications. You may have:

  • A degree level qualification in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • APM PMQ or equivalent project management qualification.
  • IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS or similar.
  • Chartered status, working towards chartership, or equivalent professional experience.
