Job Description

At tombola, our Game Studio Infrastructure team provides the platforms, tooling, and cloud services that enable our engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate reliable, scalable games enjoyed by millions of players.

As a DevOps Engineer, you'll play a hands-on role in designing, building, and maintaining the cloud infrastructure, automation, and deployment pipelines that power our platforms. Working closely with Software Engineers, QA, Security, and Infrastructure teams, you'll help improve developer experience, increase deployment confidence, and ensure our systems remain secure, resilient, and highly available.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, automating everything possible, and continuously improving the way software is built and delivered.

What you'll do

Cloud Infrastructure & Automation

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS using Infrastructure as Code.

  • Develop and manage infrastructure using Terraform and CloudFormation.

  • Improve platform scalability, resilience, availability, and performance.

  • Continuously optimise cloud resources to balance performance and cost.

CI/CD & Developer Experience

  • Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines using TeamCity, Git, AWS deployment services, and related tooling.

  • Automate software build, testing, and deployment processes to enable fast, reliable releases.

  • Work closely with engineering teams to improve deployment practices and developer workflows.

  • Support teams in adopting DevOps best practices across the software delivery lifecycle.

Platform Reliability

  • Monitor infrastructure and application health using tools such as CloudWatch and Dynatrace.

  • Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term improvements.

  • Manage logging, monitoring, and observability to improve system reliability and operational insight.

  • Support disaster recovery planning and business continuity initiatives.

Collaboration & Engineering

  • Partner with Software Engineers, QA, Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver secure, reliable platforms.

  • Participate in technical reviews and contribute operational expertise throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Champion automation, continuous improvement, and a DevOps culture across engineering teams.

  • Produce clear documentation to support knowledge sharing and operational excellence.

Security & Compliance

  • Embed security into infrastructure and deployment pipelines using DevSecOps principles.

  • Ensure infrastructure aligns with security standards and compliance requirements.

  • Support vulnerability management, patching, and infrastructure hardening.

Skills & experience

Essential

  • Commercial experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering role.

  • Strong experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native infrastructure.

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as TeamCity, Git, AWS CodePipeline, CodeDeploy, or similar.

  • Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or equivalent.

  • Experience managing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation.

  • Experience working with Docker and containerised applications, including AWS ECS.

  • Understanding of Windows Server administration and automation using PowerShell.

  • Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.

  • Good understanding of DevSecOps principles and infrastructure security.

  • Strong communication skills and experience working within Agile engineering teams.

Desirable

  • Experience with CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Kibana, FluentD, or similar monitoring and observability platforms.

  • Experience with Cloudflare, including WAF, DNS, and Zero Trust.

  • Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or DynamoDB.

  • Understanding of networking concepts including DNS, routing, load balancing, and IP networking.

  • Experience with serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda or ECS Fargate.

  • Exposure to Kubernetes or Amazon EKS.

  • Experience supporting microservices architectures.

  • Knowledge of cloud cost optimisation and FinOps principles.

Why tombola?
