Role Description:

As a Test Equipment Engineer, you will provide comprehensive engineering support for Underwater test equipment, helping to ensure its ongoing availability, reliability and performance. Working as part of the Underwater Test Equipment Team and the wider Underwater In-Service Support Group, you will support the Test Equipment Team Leader with day-to-day activities, contributing to the maintenance, operation and continuous improvement of critical test equipment that underpins torpedo support and capability

Core duties:

  • Take ownership of in‑service test equipment (COTS and STTE), ensuring it is available, reliable, safe and operational across BAE Systems and customer sites
  • Maintain equipment calibration, servicing, repair and asset records using SAP
  • Improve and introduce electrical and electronic test equipment, including upgrades to address obsolescence and enhance capability
  • Lead and carry out hardware activities, using circuit designs, wiring schedules, specifications and engineering documentation
  • Diagnose and fault‑find on complex test equipment to component level while working independently
  • Review and approve engineering changes, technical tasks and concessions, supporting off‑site investigations and trials when required
  • Opportunity to act as a Design Authority for designated test equipment

Essential Skills:

  • You’ll hold a qualification in a relevant Engineering or closely related discipline or equivalent experience
  • You’ll have experience of fault-finding and diagnostics with attention to detail
  • You’ll have experience supporting and working collaboratively across engineering teams and associated support staff

The Underwater Battlespace Team:

The team provides technical ownership of specialist electrical and electronic test equipment used to support Underwater systems. They Maintain equipment performance and configuration. Lead fault investigations, support maintenance and calibration activities, manage engineering changes and ensure equipment remains operational throughout its service life.
