Principal Software Engineer (Client-Side)

Job Description

About the role

We are looking for an experienced client-side / front-end developer to join our friendly development team, based at our Newcastle HQ.

You will work closely with our creative team to produce web pages using semantic mark-up, and with server-side developers to implement and develop complex, interactive and data-driven websites.

From project to project, you could be building new websites and web applications, or helping to maintain existing estates.

As a Principal engineer on our team, you'll also be contributing to our wider success through mentoring other developers, and supporting the commercial team developing proposals and evolving briefs.

To succeed in this role, you will be a thinker, a logical mind ready to tackle the day-to-day challenges all modern web developers face.

You seek best practices and share your knowledge with others. You love working in teams, collaborating with developers and designers.

You care about the wider success of the whole Shout team, and are constantly seeking to develop yourself and the team, by learning new technologies and contributing to our ways of working.

Our ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate the following experience:

  • Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS (SASS) and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of design principles and the ability to translate these into fluid and responsive templates.
  • Knowledge of working with JavaScript frameworks to create rich interactive content.
  • Familiarity with and adherence to web standards and best practices for performance and accessibility
  • Proven debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Some experience in AJAX techniques
  • Knowledge of HTML email best practice

You will also need working knowledge of:
