Jira Senior Developer – Become an Ambassador for our AI and Cloud Journey

What you`ll do

With Jira as THE central service of choice for agile project and backlog management we’re responsible for SAP’s internal agile heartbeat. We are serving more than 100.000 users with our platform, delivering stability while adapting and transforming our way of working towards the future in the Cloud, connected to our other platforms via classical integrations or future-proof with Agentic AI.

The Role:

As a Senior Developer and technical ambassador, you will be part of the Hyperspace Jira Development Team in India — our go-to experts who shapes how all our SAP colleagues experience their AI-supported Backlog Management Journey. You design and build high-quality Jira Data Center solutions today, while actively co-architecting the path to Jira Cloud tomorrow. Your deep technical craft and your passion for being a real team-player, combined with a talent for enabling and inspiring others, makes you the bridge between engineering excellence and organizational transformation.
Your daily life will embrace
- You will design and implement components of Tailored Jira Solutions, embedded and integrated with all other systems in the Hyperspace Universe and in SAP’s development lifecycle
- You will be involved in all phases of the development lifecycle – from idea generation over development to operations and support.
- You will define concepts, do technical and architectural evaluations and provide effort estimations.
- You will collaborate with a fun, supportive and talented team located in Bangalore, India and Walldorf, Germany.
Our transformation journey from Jira Data Center towards Jira Cloud with embedded AI solutions will stretch over multiple years while we’re still serving our existing user base in Jira Data Center with more than 100.000 users. With growing self-confidence and expertise you will contribute to our development projects of increasing complexity to keep our offering on top class level.

What you bring :
- Professional with an academic education BA or higher in Computer Science, Science or Business. MBA or similar degree.
- 10+ years of professional software development experience
- 5+ years of experience in working in international software companies.
- Architectural thinking: ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable Jira solutions; formal architecture curriculum or certification is a plus
- Strategic mindset: able to draft and contribute to technical roadmaps and champion architectural decisions
- Deep expertise in Jira Data Center administration, configuration, and custom development (Groovy/ScriptRunner, REST APIs)
- Proficiency in Java and JavaScript/TypeScript for Jira plugin and app development; Python scripting skills for our AI solutions are a plus
- Solid understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines)
- Beneficial: Hands-on experience with Atlassian Forge and/or Connect frameworks for cloud-native app development
- Beneficial: Experience with or strong appetite to drive migration from Data Center to cloud-based SaaS platforms
