Job Description

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What you build

As a Senior (AI) Engineer Lead, you will be a key member of the newly established Adopt2Consume (A2C) Insights & Data Foundation team. The team supports SAP’s vision of becoming a data-driven company by building a consistent and reliable data foundation that accelerates the development of best-in-class AI solutions, applications, and analytical dashboards.

The team’s work plays a critical role in SAP’s overall transformation and is a key building block in enabling data-driven innovation across the organization.

The Role:

In this role, you will partner with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and architects to translate ambitious ideas into production‑ready AI solutions. Proven experience serving as a Lead in a software engineering environment is essential, as you will drive architectural decisions, set engineering standards, and guide teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.

While not mandatory, experience acting as an Engineering Lead specifically in an AI or LLM‑focused software engineering environment is a significant plus, as it will accelerate your ability to design and scale advanced AI capabilities.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Work with our data foundation and analytics experts to unlock the full potential of our data in an agile, collaborative environment.
  • Drive the architecture, design, and scaling of Generative AI and agent‑based systems, guiding teams from early prototypes to stable, production‑ready solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership for the design and implementation of robust data and application pipelines supporting LLM‑powered products, including retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG).
  • Champion the introduction and maturation of AgentOps capabilities, establishing engineering standards for managing, automating, and improving the lifecycle of AI agents and LLM applications.
  • Ensure operational excellence by defining and enforcing best practices for reliability, observability, monitoring, and compliance across AI‑driven software systems.

What you bring

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of Software Engineering experience, including demonstrated leadership in a Software Engineering Lead role.
  • Fluent English and a hands‑on, solution‑oriented approach to guiding engineering teams.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in cloud environments (Azure, AWS) using Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions.
  • Experience leading teams or initiatives within agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe) using tools such as Jira.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python or Java, supported by strong software engineering and architectural design principles.

Optional, but preferred skills:

  • Practical experience building and deploying LLM‑based applications, ideally in a leadership capacity.
  • Familiarity with AgentOps tools (e.g., LangSmith, LangFuse, MLflow) to support engineering observability and delivery excellence.
  • Experience in designing and building Knowledge Graphs
  • Familiarity with SAP AI Core, SAP BTP, SAP Busines Data Cloud (BDC)
  • Experience with Agentic AI Frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI, Microsoft Agent Framework)
