Senior OS/Linux Server Management Engineer

Within the Customer Services & Delivery (CS&D) board area, the mission of ECS (Enterprise Cloud Services) Delivery organization is to pave the path for the future SAP by delivering end-to-end Managed services experience during a customer’s cloud transformation journey. We strive to provide a spectrum of cloud deployment options for our customers with our own infrastructure, our partners and through public cloud infrastructures.
The Regional Delivery team (aka Regional SWAT Team) focus on continuously improving our ECS delivery, de-escalation and escalation avoidance for ECS customers with the focus on proactive “Go Green” plans in close collaboration with various SAP stakeholder and customers.
To strengthen our delivery capabilities in the region, the ECS delivery organization EMEA is looking for an expert in OS/Linux Server with customer-facing experience to join the RDT.
THE ROLE:
- You will be part of a small team of highly skilled experts based in the global delivery organization but taking care of the EMEA region
- You will be responsible to continuously help to improve our TechOps delivery in all aspects. Next to Service Request execution this is infrastructure landscape re-architecture, new technology adoption, pilot programs etc. Global thinking and customer focus are essential.
- Your role will be a Server Management expert, driving critical topics related to Escalation Handling, Incident Management, Problem Management, Service Request, Build/Migration, Go-Live support, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Backup & Restore, Network topics.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS:
- Analyzing customer situations, processes, procedures and methodologies to find patterns to create possible improvement solutions
- Continuous implementation of projects to improve our delivery
- Structured work to avoid escalation. Analyze from different angles and develop options to prevent customers from running into a critical situation.
- De-escalating critical customer situations
- Engaging and collaborating with customers, partners and with SAP internal stakeholders
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Self-starter, team player and able to work in a fast changing and rapidly growing environment
- Strong experience as OS/Linux Server engineer in Global Operations along with continues improvement experience
- Experience with SAP installations and upgrade, planning, setup, and implementation is a must.
- Networking experience with the suite of TCP/IP, IP routing, NAT, firewalls
- Experience with network services like DNS and LDAP and HTTP proxies
- Exposure to the automation tools /scripting or processes
- Good Knowledge in application security, backup and recovery strategies, performance tuning, system copies, export-import, high availability, and disaster recovery strategy
- Experience with Pacemaker would be considered as a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex issues in an easily understandable way are important skills for this role
- Very good English skills is a must
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of related professional experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following areas: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technologies Management
- Cloud knowledge (e.g., experience of working in Public Cloud Domains like Microsoft Azure, AWS and GCP)
- Professional Certification of OS/Linux Server
- ITIL certification.
EXPECTED TRAVEL:
- Expected travel requirement is 10%
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Self-starter, team player and able to work in a fast changing and rapidly growing environment
- Strong experience as HANA Database in Global Operations along with continues improvement experience.
- Exposure to the automation tools /scripting or processes
- SAP installations and upgrade, planning, setup, and implementation.
- Providing technical expertise and support in optimizing and tuning of Systems. Performance Optimization.
- Application Security, Backup and recovery strategies, performance tuning, System Copies, export-import, high availability, and disaster recovery strategy, export-import.
- Ready to learn other SAP administrations products like cloud connector, ASE, BTP, etc
- Organized / Structured in day2day documentation.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex issues in an easily understandable way are important skills for this role
- Very good English skills is a must
