Job Description

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

Join us as a UI Engineer supporting the SAP Concur platform, working hybrid in Sao Leopoldo. You will craft the web experiences that millions of business travelers and finance teams use every day — from expense reporting and receipt capture to travel booking flows and approval dashboards. Your work will be seen, felt, and relied upon by users across every industry worldwide.

What You Will Build — and Why It Matters

You will be a hands-on engineer and technical voice for the frontend craft on your team, owning features from design collaboration through production delivery. Core areas of ownership include:

  • Scalable, accessible, and performant UI features for SAP Concur's web application — serving millions of users across enterprise accounts in every major global market.

  • Reusable component libraries and design system contributions that give product teams across SAP Concur a consistent, brand-aligned, and accessible set of building blocks.

  • High-performance rendering and bundle optimisation — improving Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP), reducing JavaScript payload sizes, and ensuring fast first-paint experiences on both desktop and mobile browsers.

  • Accessible interfaces that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA standards, using semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility — making the product usable for every user.

  • Internationalized and localized UI flows that adapt gracefully to dozens of locales, right-to-left languages, date formats, and currency display rules across the global user base.

  • Robust integration layers between the frontend and backend APIs — consuming RESTful and GraphQL services reliably, managing loading, error, and empty states with care.

  • Testing infrastructure for UI code — writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests that give the team confidence to ship quickly without regressions.

  • Continuous improvement of legacy UI code — refactoring aging components, migrating to modern patterns, and elevating the overall technical quality of the frontend codebase.

What You Bring

Core Web Fundamentals

  • Understanding of HTML5 semantics — structuring content meaningfully for accessibility, SEO, and maintainability, not just visual output.

  • CSS3 skills: Flexbox, Grid, custom properties, animations, responsive design with mobile-first methodology, and cross-browser compatibility strategies.

  • JavaScript (ES2020+) foundations — closures, prototypal inheritance, async/await, event loop, module systems, and the browser rendering pipeline.

  • TypeScript familiarity — strict typing, generics, utility types, discriminated unions, and integrating TypeScript effectively into large team codebases to prevent runtime errors and improve developer ergonomics.

Frameworks, Libraries & State Management

  • Expertise in React — component lifecycle, hooks (useState, useEffect, useContext, useMemo, useCallback, useReducer), custom hooks, and the reconciliation model that underpins performance decisions.

  • Experience with Next.js or similar meta-frameworks — including server-side rendering (SSR), static site generation (SSG), incremental static regeneration (ISR), edge rendering, and the trade-offs between each approach.

  • Familiarity with state management patterns and libraries: React Context API for local state, Redux Toolkit or Zustand for global state, and TanStack Query (React Query) or SWR for server state, caching, and optimistic updates.

  • Familiarity with other major frameworks (Vue.js, Angular, or Svelte) is a plus, particularly for evaluating architectural trade-offs or working with mixed-framework environments.

Design Systems & UI Engineering

  • Proficiency with Storybook for developing, documenting, and visually testing UI components in isolation.

  • Ability to translate designs from Figma (or equivalent tools) into pixel-accurate, responsive, and interaction-rich implementations — with a design eye and the ability to push back constructively on designs that sacrifice usability.

  • Familiarity with CSS-in-JS approaches (Styled Components, Emotion) as well as utility-first frameworks (Tailwind CSS) and traditional CSS architecture methodologies (BEM, CSS Modules).

Performance Engineering

  • Understanding of web performance fundamentals: critical rendering path, browser paint and layout cycles, JavaScript execution costs, and network waterfall analysis.

  • Experience optimizing Core Web Vitals — diagnosing and fixing LCP, CLS, and INP issues using Lighthouse, WebPageTest, Chrome DevTools Performance panel, and real-user monitoring (RUM) data.

  • Experience with bundle optimization strategies: code splitting, lazy loading, tree shaking, dynamic imports, image optimization, and CDN configuration for static assets.

  • Familiarity with rendering performance techniques: virtualised lists, memoisation strategies, avoiding unnecessary re-renders, and profiling with React DevTools and browser performance tooling.

Accessibility & Internationalization

  • Experience auditing and remediating accessibility issues using tools such as axe-core, Accessibility Insights, or browser DevTools accessibility panels.

  • Understanding of internationalization (i18n) / localization (l10n) implementation — integrating with translation libraries (react-i18next or similar), handling pluralization, bidirectional text (RTL/LTR), locale-aware formatting for dates, numbers, and currencies.

Testing & Quality

  • Test-driven mindset with experience writing unit and integration tests using Jest and React Testing Library, focusing on behavior rather than implementation details.

  • Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress for validating critical user journeys across real browsers.

  • Familiarity with visual regression testing (Chromatic, Percy, or Playwright VRT) to catch unintended UI changes in shared component libraries.

  • Comfort setting up and maintaining frontend linting and formatting pipelines — ESLint, Prettier, and TypeScript strict mode — as part of a quality-gate CI workflow.

Tooling, Build & DevOps

  • Understanding of modern JavaScript build tooling — Vite, Webpack, or esbuild — including configuring loaders, plugins, environment variables, and optimisation for production bundles.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for frontend delivery — GitHub Actions or similar.

  • Comfort working with cloud-hosted frontends on AWS (CloudFront, S3), Vercel, or Netlify, including CDN configuration, cache headers, and edge functions for performance.

  • Familiarity with containerized development environments (Docker) and working alongside backend and DevOps engineers in a cloud-native delivery pipeline.

API Integration & Backend Awareness

  • Strong experience consuming RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints — managing authentication flows (OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, JWT), request lifecycle, error handling, retry logic, and data normalization on the client.

  • Understanding of web security fundamentals relevant to frontend engineering: XSS prevention, CSRF protection, Content Security Policy (CSP), CORS configuration, and secure storage of tokens.

  • Willingness to dive into backend code (Node.js, Python, or similar) to unblock yourself when integrating APIs, contributing to API contract design, or diagnosing cross-layer issues.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Fluent English for collaborating with global, multi-regional teams across the Americas, EMEA, and APJ.

  • Comfort working within cross-functional squads alongside UX designers, product managers, QA engineers, and backend developers.

  • Advocates for UX changes that improve usability before code is written.

  • Use of AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) and AI-powered design-to-code tools to accelerate delivery and component iteration is a plus.

Where You Belong

  • A diverse, inclusive culture where global perspectives shape better products — SAP's workforce spans more than 160 countries.

  • A hybrid work environment in Sao Leopoldo that blends flexibility with meaningful in-person collaboration.

  • Cross-cultural, cross-functional teams that support shared learning and collective problem-solving.

  • Continuous learning through SAP Learning Hub, external conference support, and access to leading-edge frontend tooling and design resources.

  • A team culture that values craft, accessibility, and performance as first-class engineering concerns — not afterthoughts.
