Job Description

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

As a Development Manager at SAP Concur, you will lead an Agile engineering team using agentic coding to build new capabilities in the world's leading corporate travel and expense solution. You will own the design, delivery, and operation of scalable, secure, and reliable services — shaping architecture, coaching engineers, and partnering with product, data, and platform teams to move features from idea to production. This role sits at the intersection of applied AI engineering and enterprise-scale SaaS: you will be as comfortable in an LLM evaluation harness as you are on an incident bridge.

What you will build

You will lead the architectural evolution of AI-native applications and platforms, designing scalable systems and advanced agentic workflows. AI quality frameworks, including evaluation strategies, benchmarking, guardrails, and validation for LLM and multi-agent systems, are things you will define and implement. System-wide improvements in scalability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency are areas you will shape and own. You will establish and enforce best practices in observability, SRE, security, and governance, and you will influence technical direction through design reviews, architecture decisions, and engineering standards across teams. Partnering with product, data, and platform organizations to align engineering solutions with business goals is a core part of the role.

In your day-to-day, you will:

  • Lead and coach a team of 9+ engineers and grow a high-performance, high-trust culture
  • Own the technical direction for feature areas and systems in the Travel AI and Core Engineering group — design reviews, architecture decisions, and engineering standards across teams
  • Define AI quality frameworks: evaluations, benchmarks, guardrails, and validation for LLM and multi-agent systems
  • Deliver product scope on market-driven release dates using continuous integration, zero-downtime deployments, canaries, and feature-flag-driven development
  • Own next-generation cloud services end-to-end in a service-mesh architecture (Go, Kotlin, Java, C#/.NET, Docker, Kubernetes, Envoy, AWS, Linux)
  • Drive system-wide improvements in scalability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency
  • Meet security and compliance obligations (FedRAMP, PCI, SOC1, SOC2) through engineering program management
  • Manage escalations, platform outages, and major incidents; run blameless post-mortems
  • Handle team personnel matters — goals, coaching, development, promotions, and compensation

What you will bring

You have deep experience designing secure, scalable, enterprise-grade AI-native architectures, with strong hands-on work in LLMs, advanced RAG patterns, and multi-agent systems. Advanced system design capabilities, including high availability, fault tolerance, and large-scale distributed environments, are required. A strong understanding of governance, security, compliance, and data and privacy considerations is essential. Proven experience optimizing complex, high-throughput systems for performance and cost efficiency is expected. You are also a technical leader who can mentor engineers, guide design decisions, and influence cross-functional stakeholders across product, platform, and AI teams.

You bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical discipline
  • 14+ years of hands-on software development experience in relevant technologies
  • 4+ years leading engineering teams, including performance management, hiring, and career development
  • 4+ years in a SaaS or cloud-services environment
  • Hands-on experience designing high-availability, fault-tolerant distributed systems at scale
  • Working knowledge of container ecosystems (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) and AWS primitives (EC2, EKS, DynamoDB, and similar)
  • Proven ability to influence across product, platform, and engineering organizations and across geographies

Bonus points for:

  • Production experience with LLMs, advanced RAG patterns, or multi-agent systems
  • Experience with observability, SRE practices, and cost optimization at scale
  • Background delivering under regulated compliance regimes (FedRAMP, PCI, SOC)

Where you Belong

You will join the SAP Concur team in Bangalore, India. SAP Concur is the world's leading provider of integrated travel, expense, and invoice management solutions. By connecting data, applications, and people, our cloud-based solution provides to more than 50 million users an effortless experience and total transparency into spend wherever and whenever it happens.

As a Development Manager, you will provide technical leadership across teams and domains, mentoring engineers and building strong technical capabilities within the organization. Promoting best practices, design standards, and high-quality delivery is part of how you will contribute. You will work in a global, collaborative environment and act as a key contributor to cross-team alignment on complex, enterprise-scale initiatives. If you've spent most of your career as an individual contributor and want to shift toward broader technical influence without moving into pure management, this level is where that transition starts.

Bring out your best
SAP innovations help more than four hundred thousand customers worldwide work together more efficiently and use business insight more effectively. Originally known for leadership in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, SAP has evolved to become a market leader in end-to-end business application software and related services for database, analytics, intelligent technologies, and experience management.
