Job Description
We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.
What you'll build
The SAP Global Content Group (GCG) Engineering team builds the SAP Enterprise Knowledge Graph (EKG) — integrating SAP's reference business data across products, processes, and business objects into a unified semantic layer. To create and maintain the EKG, we develop an internal platform that exposes the knowledge graph via data access APIs and AI-powered services, and powers a neuro-symbolic AI application that enables intelligent search, reasoning, and knowledge exploration across SAP's enterprise data.
As a Data Engineer in our Content Infrastructure & Automation team based in India, you will contribute to the data infrastructure and knowledge graph systems that power our platform and AI application:
- Build and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines that feed the Enterprise Knowledge Graph — ensuring correctness, completeness, and freshness of knowledge at scale.
- Develop and evolve RDF-based data models, ontologies, and SPARQL queries that structure the knowledge graph and power our AI application's reasoning and retrieval capabilities.
- Build automated data quality checks and evaluation pipelines that detect regressions and keep the knowledge graph accurate and consistent.
- Contribute to the operation and monitoring of the Kubernetes-based cloud infrastructure that our platform runs on — supporting incident response and service health under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Implement CI/CD pipeline improvements and infrastructure-as-code components that support reliable, automated delivery.
- Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code and participate actively in code reviews.
- Collaborate with architects, senior engineers, and product owners across time zones to deliver platform features and resolve data quality issues.
What you bring
- Total of 5-10 years of professional experience
- 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with data pipeline development: ETL/ELT workflows, data validation, and pipeline monitoring in a production environment.
- Practical experience with Kubernetes — familiarity with deployments, pods, logs, and kubectl; motivation to deepen operational expertise over time.
- Experience with cloud-native development on a major cloud platform (SAP BTP, AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Strong programming skills in Python; experience with TypeScript or Java is an advantage.
- Interest in and aptitude for knowledge graph or semantic technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL) — prior experience is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and automated testing practices.
- Good written and spoken English; ability to collaborate effectively in a globally distributed team.
- B.Tech in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
Where you belong
SAP Global Content Group (GCG) builds the Enterprise Knowledge Graph to unify SAP's business and system knowledge, delivering it via a platform and a neuro-symbolic AI application used across SAP and by external customers. This role is based in India — our India team is primarily located in Gurgaon — and is part of a global team of engineers, researchers, and AI experts. You will work closely with senior engineers and architects across India and Germany, growing your skills in knowledge graph technology, cloud-native engineering, and AI-enabled systems.
