Business Processes Senior Consultant
POSITION SUMMARY
In this role, Utilities Billing is your core domain. You will guide customers through end-to-end Billing transformations on SAP S/4HANA Utilities — aligning processes to clean-core SAP principles and delivering measurable outcomes in cost-to-serve, billing accuracy, and customer experience. You will bring hands-on configuration depth, act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, and actively contribute to pre-sales and business development across the EMEA region.
SAP brings more than 20 years of dedicated Utilities industry expertise, serving over 2,500 utility companies worldwide — including 32 of the top 50 utilities in the Forbes Global 2000. SAP is the trusted partner for digital transformation across the entire energy value chain.
.
The Utilities industry is one of SAP's most strategic markets, currently undergoing fundamental change driven by decarbonization, grid modernization, and the global energy transition. Our organizational unit is integrated into Customer Engagement & Adoption, a center of excellence that brings together a team of Utilities black-belt experts to maximize value for customers across the EMEA region. This enables knowledge sharing across borders and creates consistent, high-quality delivery experiences for customers and practitioners alike.
To support our growth ambitions, we are seeking an experienced Senior Consultant (f/m/d) specialised in SAP S/4HANA Utilities Billing. You will join international project teams to implement and optimise SAP solutions, engage directly with customer stakeholders, and contribute to solution architectures that are cloud-ready and built on clean-core principles. Broader knowledge of other SAP S/4HANA Utilities modules such as Device Management, FICA, SD, etc… is considered a meaningful advantage and will broaden your impact across the engagement portfolio.
Close collaboration with other parts of the SAP organisation — including Product Engineering, the Industry Business Unit (IBU) — will be an integral part of this role, as will the ability to document, build, and run demonstration scenarios to support business development activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Solution Design and Delivery
- End-to-end Billing delivery: Lead end-to-end Billing implementation across all project phases — from discovery and blueprint through configuration, testing, go-live, and hypercare — applying SAP Activate Methodology throughout.
- Clean-core architecture: Design target-state Billing solutions that follow clean-core and upgrade-safe extensibility patterns, ensuring long-term platform stability on SAP S/4HANA Utilities.
- Business development: Build and execute compelling demonstration scenarios and configure proof-of-concept environments to support presales and customer validation activities.
Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
- Requirements and workshops: Engage business and IT stakeholders at all levels, facilitate structured workshops, and translate complex business requirements into actionable solution designs and roadmaps.
- Billing advisory: Position Billing and the Meter-to-Cash process chain holistically — advising on best practices, standards adoption, regulatory compliance, and process improvement opportunities at country and regional level.
- Value articulation: Build a compelling solution framework that includes the process landscape, integration architecture, and a clear quantification of business benefits and ROI.
- Presales support: Support Account teams in responding to RFPs, crafting value propositions, and packaging service offerings that differentiate SAP and win strategic deals.
AI Mindset and Innovation
- AI-driven value: Identify and pilot pragmatic AI and automation opportunities within Utilities Billing processes — for example, billing anomaly detection, automated dispute resolution, invoice quality scoring, testing acceleration, and predictive cash collection — delivering measurable outcomes with responsible AI guardrails.
- Platform innovation: Stay current on SAP BTP capabilities, RISE with SAP deployment models, and emerging Utilities innovations to proactively bring relevant insights to customer engagements.
WHAT YOU BRING — MUST-HAVES
- 5+ years of SAP consulting experience in the Utilities industry, with hands-on delivery across the full project lifecycle; international experience is a strong advantage.
- Minimum 2 to 4 completed end-to-end SAP Utilities implementations; relevant industry experience may partially substitute for project count.
- Deep hands-on expertise in SAP S/4HANA Utilities Billing (formerly IS-U Billing), knowledge of other Utilities modules or SAP solutions will be a plus.
- Solid knowledge of the SAP solution framework, SAP Activate Methodology (SAP tool chain knowledge will be and advantage).
- Strong understanding of the Utilities market at country and regional level, including regulatory drivers, market structures, and Meter-to-Cash process specifics.
- Strong communication and presentation skills; capable of engaging senior business stakeholders, managing expectations, and conveying the value of proposed solutions with clarity and confidence.
- Graduate or post-graduate degree in Engineering, IT, Business Informatics, or a related field.
- Professional fluency in English is required. Speaking one or more additional major European languages — eg: French, Spanish, Dutch, or Portuguese — is a significant advantage given the multi-country scope of this role.
NICE-TO-HAVES
- Broader S/4HANA scope: Knowledge of other SAP S/4HANA Utilities modules, Plant Maintenance (PM), SD, BRIM, Migration, etc…
- AI and innovation: Demonstrated AI mindset — prior pilots or proofs of concept that improved cycle time, billing quality, cost-to-serve, or customer experience will be a plus.
