Job Description
We help the world run better
At SAP, we enable you to bring out your best. Our company culture is focused on collaboration and a shared passion to help the world run better. How? We focus every day on building the foundation for tomorrow and creating a workplace that embraces differences, values flexibility, and is aligned to our purpose-driven and future-focused work. We offer a highly collaborative, caring team environment with a strong focus on learning and development, recognition for your individual contributions, and a variety of benefit options for you to choose from.
What you'll do:
Summary: We are looking for a Backend Developer with solid experience in Java and Spring Boot to contribute to SDX — SAP Sustainability Data Exchange. You will work on a modern microservices platform, building APIs and event-driven pipelines that enable companies to exchange standardized sustainability data across their value chains. This role is ideal for a developer who can work with growing autonomy, take ownership of well-defined features, and grow alongside a team of experienced engineers.
What you build: As a Backend Developer on the SDX team, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of backend services within our domain-driven architecture. You will collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and DevOps teams to deliver RESTful APIs, microservices, and data processing pipelines. Day-to-day, you will write clean, maintainable code across the full service layer (Controller → Service → Persistence), participate in code reviews, contribute to automated testing strategies, and work iteratively in a Scrum team. You will also gain hands-on experience with SAP-specific technologies and our multi-tenant supply chain data model.
What you bring:
- Solid programming skills in Java and Spring Boot, with a good understanding of OOP and design principles
- 2–4 years of experience in backend development
- Practical knowledge of RESTful API design and microservices architecture
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases (MongoDB experience is a plus; we are actively migrating to SAP HANA)
- Ability to take ownership of features end-to-end, from implementation through testing and deployment
- Experience with version control using Git
- Comfortable working in an agile environment using Scrum methodology
- Strong interest in AI-driven development practices and an AI adoption mindset
- Awareness of prompt design, context handling, and AI-assisted engineering workflows
- Ability to critically assess and improve AI-generated outputs
What we consider beneficial:
- Experience with SAP BTP, CloudFoundry, or other cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure)
- Familiarity with SAP CAP (CDS models, generated DAOs) or similar code-generation/ORM frameworks
- Knowledge of Gradle multi-module project builds
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ
- Exposure to multi-tenancy patterns or supply chain / sustainability domains
- A passion for continuous learning and staying current with industry trends
Where you belong:
Our mission is to make the world a better place with software that brings more sustainability into all industries.
