Job Description

As part of the RSPB’s 2030 strategy, we need to inspire many more, and more diverse people to take action for nature. To do this effectively, our communications, marketing, campaigning, and fundraising activity must work together to increase the RSPB’s relevance to the public, and ensure we are known as a charity in need of support.

The Head of Fundraising Campaign Planning will lead our new fundraising planning function and be the pivotal link between our Communications Plan and our mass market fundraising. This role will take the lead on setting our high-level case for support to engage more and more diverse people with financial asks from the RSPB, as well as setting fundraising direction via core propositions linked back to our integrated communications plan.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to join the UK's largest nature conservation charity. Nature is in crisis, but together we can save it.

This role will be expected to build exceptional relationships with Commercial, High Value, Engagement, Digital, UK Country and Fundraising teams to maximise cross-team opportunities and ensure our key fundraising activities achieve the biggest impact.

Key activities will include:

  • Lead the RSPB’s Fundraising Campaign Planning team to ensure our mass-market fundraising activities align with our organisational comms plan
  • Work with the Communications and Digital planning teams to ensure that fundraising activity will compliment engagement, campaigning and other comms activity
  • Build the RSPB’s reputation as a key and influential thought-leader and expert in mass-market fundraising
  • Advocate for fundraising, raising its profile with others and ensure a collaborative approach with relevant teams in particular Individuals Income, Commercial, High Value Partnerships, Digital Technology, Engagement and UK Countries
  • Analyse the external context and leading fundraising campaigns to ensure RSPB fundraising priorities are developed in line with business need and industry trends
  • Support fundraising teams to ensure fundraising objectives are driven by in depth audience insight
  • Develop the overarching objectives, proposition and messaging of our fundraising campaigns by working with the Head of Integrated Communications and Lead Communications Planner
  • Manage cross-product integrated fundraising campaigns
  • Set direction to ensure the objectives from RSPB’s Strategy 2030 are clearly represented throughout our fundraising activity

Essential skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Highly developed knowledge of the principles, theory and practice of fundraising planning
  • Experience of leading change and working in an agile environment.
  • Experience of using collaboration and co-creation to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Full understanding of the impact of fundraising and marketing compliance and best practice standards
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of managing and developing fundraising and/or communications planning and strategy
  • Experience of developing fundraising and/or communications propositions to achieve agreed audience objectives
  • Experience of working with and influencing senior management.
  • Experience of developing innovative solutions and contributing to strategic planning
