Underwriting Outplacement Manager
About the role
This is a newly created senior underwriting opportunity, with the scope to shape strategy, influence profitable growth, and build a strategically important external insurance partnership. You’ll take ownership of the underwriting approach for business placed through National Intermediary Services (NIS), ensuring it delivers commercial value while remaining aligned with NFU Mutual’s risk appetite, technical standards and regulatory responsibilities.
At NFU Mutual, our aim is to make our insurance products the best they can be, so our customers get great cover as standard. When a customer needs cover beyond our own products, our Agency Network can access suitable cover from the wider insurance market through their partnership with NIS – and that’s where this role really comes in!
You will set clear strategic priorities, identify market opportunities and oversee how insurance risks are placed and managed. Your work will ensure outsourced underwriting remains aligned with NFU Mutual’s risk appetite, technical standards, regulatory responsibilities and long-term objectives. You will also use portfolio insight to guide decisions, address gaps in cover and support delivery of growth and performance targets.
Working across Underwriting, Pricing, Product, Sales, Agency, Claims, Marketing and Propositions, you will build trusted relationships and influence decisions across a broad stakeholder group. You will oversee delegated authority, binder and outplacement arrangements, bring external market insight into the business and lead and develop a direct report. Some travel to broker partners will be required.
This role is aligned to our Tiddington Head Office, just outside Stratford Upon Avon – you will need to spend 20% of your time here, with up to 80% homeworking on offer. There may also be times you will have to visit external partners at their offices too, so some UK wide travel will be expected.
This role will be known internally as: Underwriting Segment Manager – NIS
