The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including renewable generation, hydropower, nuclear, and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

Overview of role

Our Energy team is recruiting a Technical Director Nuclear to provide leadership and civilian nuclear power generation expertise as we expand across Asia. In this role, you will drive growth by building strong client relationships and focusing on customer priorities, while ensuring bids and project management are delivered in full compliance with Group directives and policies. You will position Mott MacDonald as a trusted partner in the nuclear power sector by offering thought leadership and showcasing our capabilities. As a key member of the nuclear team, you will provide technical insight to clients and play a vital role in developing the skills of our project teams, supporting the continued growth and development of our Energy team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Subject matter expert in nuclear and work closely with Client Director to grow and develop key accounts in alignment with Mott MacDonald’s strategy and organisational needs.

  • Provide technical leadership as Technical Lead or as Project Principal/Manager through guidance, training, and knowledge sharing to ensure excellence in project delivery. Manage risk and commercial performance on the projects.

  • Lead engagement with our clients and market particularly from a technical perspective in our key locations, involving senior level management and relevant technical leads for effective impact.

  • Identify and convert opportunities into viable prospects that support business growth.

  • Ensure we are delivering commercially robust proposals through application of a customer focused approach and appropriate innovation in delivery.

  • Drive the bidding process, converting prospects into projects ensuring bids are technically and commercially sound.

  • Collaborate and work effectively with Market/Practice Leaders to bring the right resources for prospects and to deliver the project to the client’s satisfaction and meeting Mott MacDonald’s profit or contribution targets.

  • Mentor and develop our project delivery teams in nuclear disciplines, including design, safety cases, regulatory requirements, and compliance

Candidate Specification

  • Education: Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.

  • Nuclear Expertise: Good understanding of the opportunities and challenges of the nuclear sector, including new builds and decommissioning. Proven track record in managing and growing key locations preferably in Asia.

  • Technical Skills: Experienced in Nuclear Engineering and/or Safety Case Delivery in a highly regulated industry in the nuclear sector.

  • Project Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, oversee projects as Technical Lead, or Project Principal/Manager, as appropriate, and deliver results.

  • Client Engagement: Strong track record of building and sustaining long-term client and/or wider stakeholder relationships.

  • Business Development: Experienced in identifying opportunities and driving growth through key account management.

  • Bidding: Experienced in driving the bidding process and producing technically and commercially robust proposals.

  • Sustainability focus: Committed to addressing client sustainability goals.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Capable of providing technical guidance, training, and fostering knowledge transfer.

  • Strategic Thinker: Aligning endeavours with organizational strategy.

  • Communication: Excellent at engaging with senior management and stakeholders.
